Date parties and formals #szn is always an exciting time on Bucknell’s campus. It is the perfect excuse to finally wear that romper, raid your friend’s closet, or convince yourself to buy that Zara dress. Reality quickly sets in when the sign-up email is sent out and you realize you need to find a date!

Date parties provide us with the best (and worst) memories of our college years and often, it has to do with who you chose/were forced to bring as a date. We’ve all experienced a date party with at least one of these lovely bachelors:

1. Your Crush:

You had a yolo moment and asked the hot guy in your class or the boy who’ve been in love with since freshman year. You have butterflies the whole day leading up to the night. He walks into the pregame and you can’t get over how good he looks in his tie. You make sure to take the perfect Instagram. The night goes great and definitely is a night to remember!

2. The One Who Gets Away

You’re walking onto the bus and your date is nowhere to be found. You third-wheel another couple on the ride over and end up hanging with your friends the whole night. You might bump into your date at the meatball station at Brasserie but for the majority of the night, you’re on your own.

3.The Clingy Creep

He stands in the corner the whole pregame and then won’t leave you alone at the Bowling Alley. He follows you everywhere and asks you the most random questions. At the end of the night he tries to make a move out of nowhere and you awkwardly hug him. He ends up texting you every night afterwards. But hey, at least he’s kind enough to buy you drinks!

4. The set up

Whether you know him through mutual friends or you’ve never seen him around campus, random set ups can go one of two ways. You could really hit it off or it could be a complete disaster. Once you get over the initial introducing yourselves, you get to know each other and see how the night goes. It’s always an entertaining surprise!

5.  Life of the party

Bringing the social butterfly as your date always makes for a good time! He can make conversation with anyone and spends the majority of the night on the dance floor. It becomes problematic if he has too much to drink—but you spend the whole night laughing!

6. Friend:

Bringing a friend, regardless if it’s a guy or girl, is always a smart and safe idea. You two will both have a great time and you have nothing to stress or feel awkward about. Of course, there’s always the chance you will end up hooking up, which could make for a funny story!

Regardless of the type of date you decide to bring or the type of guy he turns out to be, it is your date party and you deserve to enjoy it! Just remember to make the most of it and do not let your date dictate your night.
