Styling: One Item, Multiple Ways

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bucknell chapter.

It’s easy for us to get caught up in morning routines.  Mine typically consists of eating breakfast, doing my makeup, throwing on a few clothing pieces that I (ideally) haven’t worn in a week or so, and scurrying off to class.  We forget about getting creative with styling outfits sometimes, and don’t always remember that some of our staple pieces can be worn in multiple different ways.  Check out some of these Pinterest images for outfit inspiration, and tweak these suggestions to what is already in your closet!

Chambray Shirt

Preppy Vibes

This first outfit option is meant for someone who wants to go for a preppier look.  Try pairing a printed trouser, fun flats, and chunky necklace with your chambray shirt and see how put-together it makes you feel!

Simple but Edgy

This outfit is super easy to recreate, and it’s perfect for transitioning from day to night.  Throw on a black t-shirt, a long necklace, dark skinny jeans, and black booties, and tie the chambray shirt around your waist.  Not only will it look super cute tied, but you also won’t have to worry about carrying a layer with you if it gets chilly outside!

Sweet & Summery

Pair your chambray shirt with floral or printed shorts for a sweet and simple summery look.  The simplicity of the chambray shirt will draw attention to how fun the shorts are.  This outfit will feel light and comfortable, and is perfect for any warm day!

Cable Knit Sweater

Cozy & Feminine

Cable knit sweaters are a great staple piece for a stylish, cozy outfit.  Rather than just pairing it with jeans or leggings, you can try dressing it up with a skirt or a hat.  You will still get the comfort of the sweater, but it will look a lot more unique than it would have otherwise.

Sharp Neutrals

Experiment with layering your cable knit sweater under a nice coat.  If you stick to minimalist and neutral tones, you are guaranteed to look sharp and sophisticated.  This outfit is perfect for spending a day in the city, going to lunch with friends, or even making a first impression on someone important.

For the Simple Girl

This might very well be the easiest way to rock a cable knit sweater.  Traditional blue jeans, sunglasses, and a pair of pointy-toe flats will not only be comfortable and easy to throw together, but it will also suit any occasion.  You can wear this to class or to anywhere casual at just about any time of year.

Leather Jacket

Chic with a Hint of Spice

Leather jackets can be a bit intimidating.  Sometimes, girls worry that they won’t be able to pull them off.  The trick to a leather jacket is styling it in a way that matches your personality.  This first look suits anyone who is going for chic without being too daring.  Red lipstick, cuffed skinny jeans, a white t-shirt, and patterned flats under the jacket make this look easy to recreate yet still very stylish.

Edgy Twist on a Feminine Dress

It might seem counterintuitive, but pairing a leather jacket with a feminine dress can actually make for an awesome look.  By doing this, you will be able to strike the perfect balance between edgy and feminine.  You will definitely be noticed!

Button Skirt

Skirts that button down the middle front have been trending this last year.  Since these skirts are fairly bold, they balance out some of the edge of the jacket.  Combine these pieces together for a hip, different look.
