It’s a Saturday afternoon and you finally rally enough to get out of bed and head to the shower.  What will you wear on this chilly day to frolic the backyard of your favorite downtown house with your closest friends? Sadly, the grounds are covered in a high accumulation of snow and it does not look like anyone will be romping downtown like you have hoped.

A Snowday…on a Saturday…a Snowterday. Not ideal in any sense. The perfect Snowday would ideally be on a Friday or a Monday, in which would extend the weekend; definitely not a Saturday! Then again, here at Bucknell, we know that snow days are never proclaimed, so this is the closest thing to a winter day off that we will see. But what is there to do besides mourning in bed attached to your laptop. Catch up on work, absolutely not; seek adventure in snow season activities, indeed. Here are some engaging ideas to bring a little more excitement to your lazy day full of cozy PJs and survival snacks.

Explore Netflix

Day long bonding with our good friend Netflix is always enjoyable, but when you have a real excuse to lie there and do nothing, it’s even better. Depart from your usual addiction or secure re-runs and explore something new. Here are our favorite snow day movies that are streaming this month: Silver Linings Playbook, White Chicks, Ferris Buellers Day Off, Mean Girls, Clueless, 13 going on 30, Uptown Girls, The Wolf of Wall Street.

Another option is always to bundle up with a new TV Series and spend the day binge-watching your new obsession: Friends, American Horror Story: Coven, Scandal, Comedy Bang! Bang!

Netflix getting old? Purchase one of these crowd-favorites to spend your Snowterday completely enthralled: I Know What You Did Last Summer, Inception, Zoolander, The Bourne Legacy, Frozen, Home Alone, Harry Potter, Scream, Mrs. Doubtfire, Beetlejuice,

Go Sledding; you’re not too old!

Take part in the ultimate winter activity. Clothe warm, grab your most sled-like accomplice, and head to the Grove. Knock yourself out with this fun pursuit…not literally though; so don’t run into any trees in the process!

Online Shop

The one place that’s definitely not closed: The Internet. Distract yourself from the unwelcomed cold and shop for spring and summer clothes. There’s nothing better than getting into the happy mindset of sundresses and sandals. Keep your spirits high by imagining you modeling these new clothes during the sunny Saturdays ahead.

Read a Best Seller

Read for fun? What a foreign idea! However, there is no better time to engross in one of the latest sexy Cosmo recommendations than a snow day. Bundle up with the characters and fantasize about your current crush.

Cook, then Consume

Practice your Martha Stewart skills and amuse yourself in the kitchen. Whether you’re in the mood for a delicious cake, a fresh pizza, or classic cookies, invite all your friends over to prepare your craving and subsequently devour it. The more the merrier!

The best way to spend a Snowterday is not to mourn your André deprivation, but to proceed to spend it with your closest friends. Maybe you won’t occupy your afternoon by being destructive in a downtown backyard, but make the best of your cold day by partaking in these wintertime activities. Keep calm and continue to fantasize about all that the upcoming spring Saturdays have to offer!
