“Let’s Do Something”: Making The Most of a Summer Apart

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bucknell chapter.

With the end of classes drawing near comes the time to say goodbye to your friends at Bucknell until next fall. Being home is always nice, but there is something about not having your best friends by your side 24/7 that makes finishing finals and packing up bittersweet. However, with a little planning, there are so many fun ways to get everyone together before classes begin in August.

Runs and Athletic Events

For the more athletically ambitious, there are tons of runs and events going on in the summer, from the Color Run to a Triathlon. They go on all summer all over the country, so you could meet up in a place where you are interning or even make a full-blown trip out of it! Not only is an athletic event a great bonding activity to do with your friends, but it also serves as motivation to get active everyday (and for you and your friends to hold each other accountable).

Concerts

With so many amazing summer tours and music festivals going on around this time, it’s the perfect chance to have something to look forward to, whether it be a music festival, state fair or food truck fest (which seems like it will be wildly popular this summer). Airbnb, a website where you can find and rent lodging, offers amazing deals if you are staying in a new place and want to stick to a budget. You can rent out a whole place that’s all your own for a weekend at a fraction of the price.

Visit Them!

One of the best parts of going to school out-of-state is making friends from all over the country, including some from great vacation destinations. Having the experience of visiting a friend from school in their hometown is such a cool opportunity to see where they grew up, meet their friends from home, and get to know their family (if you haven’t already).

Road Trip Without a Reason

Half of the fun of a road trip is getting there. With a road trip, you can check out a new place and catch up on all of your summer stories in person.

BU Reunion

Whether you are working as a Reunion ambassador, visiting friends who are working on campus, or just going back to float down the Susquehanna on an inflatable donut while enjoying your favorite Freez flavor, there are so many reasons to come back to Lewisburg.

Care Package

If nothing else, send your friends a fun care package. There are tons of ideas available online (hint: Pinterest), and it’s a fun way to spend an afternoon while also making someone else’s day. You’ll definitely catch them by surprise when they receive it. You can include a thoughtful note, a photo for their room next year, and those famous Nutella brownies you’ve talked about all year but never got around to making.

Now washed up, she can be seen running around Lewisburg, people watching on the first floor of the library and drinking wine in her apartment. She prefers to send snail mail, call people rather than text (to the dismay of her friends) and loves nighttime walks.
