6 ways BC’s Tigertail Lake is the staycation you’ve been looking for

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Broward chapter.

A “Staycation” is defined as a vacation spent in one’s home country rather than abroad, or one spent at home and involving day trips to local attractions. If you’re looking for a low key getaway that’s inexpensive, close by, yet as exhilarating as a trip to a Caribbean oasis, you’ve come to the right place. Broward College’s very own Tigertail recreational lake is every bit of the vacation you deserve!

Low key paradise  Whether you’re a native South Floridian or a newcomer to the sunshine state, going to the beach is the default option when looking for some outdoor fun. However, with tourist season in full effect, navigating through crowded parking lots and overtaken cabanas, may not be worth the effort. Tigertail lake is a low key alternative that offers the amenities of a beach without the all the fuss.

Chrystal clear waters  Even if you haven’t had the pleasure of being stung by a man o war, you are wise enough to be wary of the deadly jellyfish at all costs when you’re at the beach. Instead of subjecting your body to a potentially gruesome fate, you can swim incautiously in the shockingly clear, turquoise water of Tigertail’s manmade lake. Rest assured that you won’t be bothered by any tentacles within legs reach, because let’s be real here – ain’t nobody ready for that jelly.

Affordable water sports  Windsurfing, sail boating, paddle boarding – all quintessential water sports in South Florida and almost always costly ones at that. Fear not for your wallet at Tigertail Lake, whose amenities include all these activities and more at a reasonable price for non BC Students.  Sailboat and Windsurfing starts at $20/hr.  and Kayak, Canoe, and Paddleboard start at $10/hr. As for you lucky BC students yourselves? All amenities are free! Water you waiting for?

Team building  “The only way to truly create a successful team is to make them climb a multi-tower 40-foot tall ropes and challenge course” – Ancient Tiger tail Proverb

Whether you’re a student organization or a group of friends in need of an adrenaline rush, look no further. Tigertail’s obstacle course is a heart pounding, yet awarding experience that forces you to face your fears as you traverse up and above a dizzying 40-foot tall ropes and challenge course. The challenge course is booked by contacting the Tigertail staff in advance or by attending open challenges once a month when the course is open to the public.

Excursions Think studying abroad is the only way to travel and gain experiential experience? Think again. Tigertail offers short “Adventure trips” around Florida that center around outdoor activities for a reasonable price. Annual trips include spring break cycling and camping in Myakka State Park and a Diving trip in Key Largo. All these trips are led by the talented and experienced Tiger tail team, making it a perfect getaway for both the seasoned adventurer and the novice.
