4 Feelings You Have When You Realize the Semester is Ending

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Brandeis chapter.

Due to this semester’s interesting schedule, we are about to embark on a week of vacation, before returning to campus for the last day of the classes and of course, the dreaded finals. Of course, we are all feeling that academic stress that comes with the semester ending, but here are some other thoughts and feelings you are probably experiencing as you reflect on the past semester and year.

Excitement

It’s almost summer, and we all know it is the best season of the year. Whether you have a great summer job, internship, or prolonged period of relaxation coming up, you’re probably feeling some sort of excited anticipation for the next adventure that awaits. Plus, as the end of semester work intensifies (hello, finals), you can’t help but look forward to a time when you will have no academic obligations whatsoever.

Sadness

Being a Brandeis student is a lot of work. We are constantly busy with obligations: academic, social, and extracurricular. However, we all know that after a couple weeks of nothingness at home, we are all going to miss our insane semester schedules because at least they were full of things we enjoyed (for the most part). Also, home and family is great, but not being able to have your closest friends just down the hall for late-night chats and snacks is always to be hard to get used to.

Nostalgia

Suddenly everything is a last, even if it’s only just for the semester. Last day of classes, last big group dinner with friends, even your last shower where you have to wear shoes. Not to mention only a few more sleeps in the room that’s been home for the past 7 or 8 months. For a lot of us, these are only temporary lasts because we will be back at it in a few months, but I can imagine this nostalgic feeling is even more intensified for seniors! And even for those of us who aren’t seniors, we are busy thinking about the fact that yet another year of college is in the books. Yikes!

Happiness

The weather is finally warm and you can take those cute clothes out of your closet. Summer is so close you can taste it. Even though finals are coming, all you want to do is hang out outside and enjoy time with your friends. You’re excited to see family and friends from home. There’s nothing like the happiness that comes with summer approaching, and regardless of all the other feelings you are experiencing, there’s at least a glimmer of happiness in there somewhere.
