Spring Fling 2011 Preview: Taking Back Sunday, Far East Movement, and Super Mash Bros

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Binghamton chapter.

It is the time of year that all the Binghamton students have been waiting for and no, it isn’t finals.

Spring Fling, an outdoors musical carnival held outdoors every spring, is being held on May 7 and we are having a diverse group of musically talented guests for this event.

Taking the main stage will be Taking Back Sunday, Far East Movement, and Super Mash Bros. competing with our past two successful events which featured Drake and Girl Talk. After the wildly successful Drake concert, the Student Association was hoping to create another concert just as big. However, the SA opted for the next great idea, a big music festival featuring several artists.

Some students find this combination of performers a random grouping. However, the Student Association board wanted to reach out to as many students as possible, making this one of the biggest events Binghamton has ever seen.

Hallie Steinman, freshman, says, “I think the group choices aren’t very related, which is both good and bad. It’s good because it offers different genres and so hopefully everyone will be happy with at least one performance but bad because they won’t really flow well together.”

These choices did very well on the Binghamton SA survey so it was decided  that they could appeal to more students by featuring all three. The group choices aren’t leaving many students in disappointment as many students are still excited and eager for the three different music artists.

Alyssa Wong, an eager student says, “I’m excited. I’ve never been to one but from what I hear from people who have, they love it.”
