Discover Alternatives to State Street

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Binghamton chapter.

The leaves are no longer bright and colorful and the trees hang naked and bare. Every few minutes someone coughs or sneezes in lecture and Binghamton is becoming bitterly cold again. Binghamton sweatshirts and apparel fill the moving sidewalks and UGG boots trot along the ‘brain.’

When the long week of work and exams are over, many students enjoy going downtown to let loose and party. The issue with this is, most of us aren’t properly dressed for the outside weather when we go downtown. There isn’t (for the most part) a place to hang up our jackets and sweaters and if we go bundled up, we will quickly get warm. Here’s an alternative: do something else!

There are many different things to do for fun in the Binghamton area. Mikey Snow, sophomore, says he “really enjoys going to the movies as a nice break from the downtown scene, especially when it’s a wholesome film with a nice message.”

Talya Keschner, junior, says “I love going to Friendly’s with my close friends. I love sitting down to ice cream and just hanging out with them.”

There are a few unknown places in the Binghamton area that are loads of fun.

Brett Aiken, senior, says his favorite place is Chucksters (http://www.chucksters-vestal.com/) where he enjoys playing Aeroball with his friends. They also have mini-golf, jumpsters and a climbing wall.

At Skate Estate (http://skateestate.com/) you can play laser tag, go skating or play in the arcades. Just because we’re in college doesn’t mean we can’t have a good time.

The most fun place of all is TR Events (http://treventsofbinghamton.com/) where you can go to paintball, to play laser tag or to “open bounce” where you can play in a bunch of bouncy houses.  It may sound childish, but it is the most fun you’ll ever have!

The next time you don’t know what to do and want to have fun without heading downtown, look into these options for the best times of your college experience. Go crazy!

Raven Rivera is a senior at Binghamton University majoring in English and Rhetoric with a minor in Theatre. After living on Long Island all her life, she made the move to upstate NY and is enjoying the snowy weather. At Binghamton, Raven is the president and editor-in-chief of the newly SA-chartered publication, Her Campus Binghamton. In her spare time she enjoys watching entirely too much television, romantic comedies and Disney movies, and preparing for her American Idol auditions one day. She is currently an editorial intern for iaam.com and in the future, hopes to move to NYC and be a head writer/executive producer of an awesome television show on ABC, NBC, FOX, or Bravo (really, any will do).
