Don’t Stress About Your Summer Plans

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

It seems as if every conversation people are having lately revolves around summer plans, and it can leave you feeling upset and overwhelmed if you don’t have a plan beyond moving out of your dorm in May. The truth that many people seem to forget is that the first week of April is still early in the year. You don’t have to have everything figured out yet! There are endless options things to do this summer, so if you still don’t have a clue, keep reading for some ideas.

It’s still not too late to apply to internships. Many have rolling deadlines and some are not as formal of a program as the ones with earlier deadlines. Think about what type of industry you want to learn more about and just start sending resumes and cover letters out. Businesses may not advertise that they are looking for interns but will be more than willing to have you come in a few days a week to learn exactly what the company does.

Is there a cause your passionate about? Consider volunteering this summer. The time commitment is not as intense as most jobs or internships so you will be able to spend time with your family and friends or working on whatever you didn’t have time for during the year.

The school year leaves us all fairly broke, so why not use this summer to build your bank account back up. Just because it’s not an internship doesn’t mean it won’t look good on your resume. Get the best of both worlds and get paid for all your hard work, even if it’s at the mall, your local pool, or a summer camp.

The summer’s also a great time to focus on any type of athletic training, since you don’t have to worry about squeezing in a workout between class and meetings. Whether you’re looking to complete a race, become a fitness instructor, or focus on being more active, enjoy the time you can spend on yourself.

The most important thing to remember is to enjoy the summer! This is your time to relax and recharge from the school year. September will be here before you know it, so enjoy the sunshine while it lasts.
