Taylor Swift Songs for Every Life Situation

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at American chapter.

The beauty of music is that it can often capture feelings and emotions that you can’t seem to express on your own. There’s something comforting in listening to an artist’s lyrics, and thinking “Yes, that’s exactly how I am feeling!” And whether you like her or not, you’ve got to admit that Taylor Swift is a queen at writing relatable song lyrics.

Taylor Swift gets it. She understands the feelings of unrequited love, the joys of having a crush and falling in love, the darkness of heartbreak, and the struggle of finding your place in the world. To prove how relatable Taylor Swift is, we’ve compiled a list of her songs to apply to various life situations.

Situation: When you walk into a party/class/TDR and you see a totally hot guy or girl standing on the other side of the room and you instantly fall in love with them and start picturing your lives together.

Applicable Taylor Swift song: “Enchanted”

“Here I was again tonight, forcing laughter, faking smiles, same old tired lonely place. Walls of insincerity, shifting eyes and vacancy, vanished when I saw your face. All I can say is it was enchanting to meet you.”

Situation: When all of a sudden that same person is greeted some girl or guy, and they start kissing. And suddently all of your dreams and future plans are crushed to the ground and now you’re just awkwardly standing there all alone.

Applicable Taylor Swift song: “Invisible”

“I just wanna show you, she don’t even know you, she’s never gonna love you like I want to.”

Situation: When you really like somebody, even though you know that you shouldn’t because they probabaly aren’t good for you. But you can’t help yourself.
Applicable Taylor Swift song: “Style”
“I should just tell you to leave cause I, know exactly where it leads but I, watch us go round and round each time.”
Situation: When you secretly have a crush on somebody, but are too nervous to tell them so you just go along like everything is normal.

Situation: When you’re in a relationship with someone, but can sense that things are starting to go downhill.
Applicable Taylor Swift song: “Story of Us”
“I don’t know what to say, since the twist of fate when it all broke down. And the story of us looks a lot like a tragedy now.
Situation: When you like somebody who likes somebody else. Or, when you think back to your sixth grade crush, who totally broke your heart when he asked that other girl in your class to the winter dance.
Applicable Taylor Swift song: “Teardrops On My Guitar”
“He says he’s so in love, he’s finally got it right. I wonder if he knows he’s all I think about at night.”
Situation: When you are finally letting go off either somebody or something in your past, and looking towards a new future.
Applicable Taylor Swift song: “Clean”
“Rain came pouring down when I was drowning, that’s when I could finally breathe. And that morning, gone was any trace of you, I think I am finally clean.”

Clearly these aren’t the only times that Taylor Swift completely understood what we were going through. So even though we were unable to break down every single Taylor Swift song for every single situation, we also created some Taylor Swift playlists for different moods.
