Redefining Traditional Thanksgiving Food

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at American chapter.

As Thanksgiving approaches along with Winter Break, that means the start of winter holiday traditions. From food to movies to games played, we all love our certain traditions over the holidays. Traditions can always change though and become new ones, including what food is eaten on the day of giving. Here are a few popular Thanksgiving dishes that are a different take on tradition:

Fried Turkey

Everyone always love the main course of turkey. Whether its on a sandwich, smothered in gravy, or even a leg, it’s a course for all meat lovers to enjoy. If you want to add more of a treat to the ultimate treat yourself holiday, try frying your turkey! Pair it with your mashed potatoes smothered in gravy and buttery rolls and you’ll have the ultimate treat yourself meal for the year. The recipe can be found here.

Stuffing Muffins

Stuffing has never had a limit of how many scoops you can take. Try them in a muffin form and you have your own individual portion of stuffing, just like a roll of bread. Instead of having an area of your plate covered with this delicious side, grab it in a muffin form. Find the recipe here.

Green Bean Casserole

A popular dish to many, this casserole redefines basic vegetables. Instead of grabbing a boring plate of green veggies, try it drenched in cream with flavors of pepper along with the addition of fried onions. Although this casserole has deep fried onions and thick cream, you would still be getting veggies from your Thanksgiving dinner with the bean portion in this dish. Check out the recipe here.

Mashed Potato Puffs

Just like stuffing, you can never have enough mashed potatoes for Thanksgiving. But what about in a mini form with its mouthwatering flavors? That’s right, if you want your own individual mashed potatoes, make them in a puff form to get small bursts of garlic and butter in your mouth. Find the recipe here.

Pumpkin Bars

Pie is always a must-have for dessert after the big dinner, specifically if it’s pumpkin. However, if you’re more into a cakey textured dessert, then make pumpkin bars. Just like brownies, these bars have a moist taste like cake and a sweet delicious glaze to go with it. Instead of just a piece of pie, try a bar paired with its delicious topping. The recipe can be found here.

From Thanksgiving until New Year’s, there are many traditions. However, they can always change over time, especially when it comes to what we eat. With these dish ideas, not only is Thanksgiving redefined, but also becomes a stronger reason to treat yourself over the holidays.
