Food Review: Rasika, Modern Indian Cuisine

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at American chapter.

I cannot even begin to explain how hard it was to get reservations for this ZAGAT top-rated restaurant. Ever since I began school in Washington, D.C. I have tried practically a million times to reserve a table for when my parents were in town and finally I was able to make it happen post winter break. But let me tell you, it was worth the wait.

Rasika is a modern Indian cuisine restaurant located in both the Penn Quarter and West End neighborhoods of Washington, D.C. This four (out of four) star, classy and sophisticated restaurant is known as one of the six see-and-be-seen places to eat in the city. Hence why reservations were almost impossible to come by. The restaurant includes open-kitchen seating to watch the chefs cook on on the Tawa (griddle) and sigri (bar-b-que), a bar and lounge area, a main dining room and even a private dining room.

In addition to the hype behind being spotted at the restaurant itself, the food and service are absolutely mind-blowing. Rasika offers extensive lunch, dinner, tasting and dessert menus. During my visit, the service was superb and everyone was extremely attentive and willing to offer suggestions for meal selections. As a lover of spicy food, I ordered the Chicken Green Masala and I could rave about my eye-watering, meal for days. If you aren’t a fan of chicken or don’t want your mouth to be on fire, there are plenty of other choices ranging from beef, to lamb, to seafood and choices for vegetarians. Rasika’s menu includes a selection of many authentic and traditional Indian cuisines and spices.

Although everything from the atmosphere to the service to the meal itself was amazing about Rasika, there is one disadvantage. The restaurant is most likely not in a college girl’s budget. Even though this isn’t a place many of us can afford to go to every weekend, it is definitely a place that lives up to its reputation. If you are a fan of Indian food, or want a classy night on the town, save up your extra babysitting money or have Mr. Right take you to Rasika: Flavors of India.
