HCAU Review: ‘Love’ on Netflix

HCAU Review: Love

The second season of Netflix’s Love just went up and after binge watching it in a day or two, I must say that I loved it almost as much as the first one. If I were to write a summary of Love, it would probably sound quite cheesy and clichéd: Dorky guy meets popular, pretty girl, they have a few adventures in LA, they fall in love but it doesn’t really work out. All supporting characters are fucked up in one way or the other. But, secretly loving these kinds of shows, I started watching it anyway, and I ended up completely adoring the show. Not only is it incredibly awkwardly honest about just about everything – jobs, friendships, sex, drugs – but the kind of insight we slowly get into the characters’ lives is mesmerising in its uniqueness. Plus, their LA lifestyle just seems so real in a way, and absolutely makes me want to drop out of uni and start working for a TV company in The States.

In this second season, now, we seem to have grasped why Mickey is the way she is, she and Gus seem to have finally gotten their shit together, and Bertie actually has a boyfriend. Obviously, not all is as easy and good as it looks. Compared to the first season, I did not find it quite as interesting. That’s mostly due to the fact that at this point, we know the characters, and the element of discovery is kind of gone. Still, there are tons of interesting and hilarious moments in the second season, and the bite-sized, half-hour episodes are perfect for when you just want to chill out with something that isn’t too intellectually challenging, but not shallow either – and in the end, who doesn’t fancy a bit of love?

HCAU rates it a 3.5/5!
