She Said, He Said: Clueless College Guys Weigh in on the Things We Think Are Common Sense

Wednesday, May 16, 2012

Many people will argue that guys are “just like us.” I agree with that statement, besides the fact they can eat whatever they want and not gain weight, spend hours in front of the TV playing video games, and avoid emotional attachment in any and all situations. There are certain times in my life when I truly believe the notion that guys are from Mars and girls are from Venus; for instance, when the little boy I babysit tells me that masquerade (mascara) is only for Gothic people, or when my best friend’s boyfriend accuses her of being an alien when she wears her sticky boobs under a backless dress. We spend hundreds of dollars on things like manicures, makeup and highlights, while it only takes guys a mere ten minutes to get ready. To guys, girls will always be a foreign concept.

college guy walking in his dorm student The following are questions I believed most every girl could answer in a heartbeat. I asked them to three college guys, Tom, Evan and Matthew, and recorded their answers below. Tom is the ultimate frat boy. He grew up as an only child and lives in a frat mansion with over thirty of his bros at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. When he’s not golfing, Tom enjoys a good happy hour on Friday afternoons. Evan, 20, currently living in Los Angeles, CA, grew up with several girlfriends and an older sister. He is an aspiring talent agent and is currently interning in California. Matthew, a sophomore at the University of Iowa, has had a girlfriend for two years. He plays intramural basketball and loves the Chicago Bulls.

neither got the breakfast at tiffany's question. she didn't ask for the actress, she asked the character, haha. fail on both parts. but ya, i'm a girl and didn't know the sex and the city question (never watched it), the tanning question (never been tanning) or the bobbi brown cosmetics one.

This is a fun article, but come on! Everyone knows the Gossip Girl characters!!

I get what the point of the article was, but I agree with the other comments in saying that even I didn't know the answer to all of these questions!
Good intent, but I think the article missed the mark a little bit.

Totally didn't know a lot of the celebrity ones XP But the Stephen Hawking comment was hilarious!

No offense, but you yourself have to learn some things about boys before writing the article. I do not know if it is 'cause I have a lot of friends who are boys, 'cause a lot of guys like me (which I'm not implying it does not happen to you) or just 'cause of my age (I'm 26), but you are definitely stereotyping boys and actually maybe I'm telling you a secret, boys fall in love faster than girls. They too have feelings. The difference is that they are though not to show them. Of course there are some general things that girls care for and the guys don't care for. Look..I'm a girl who can eat whatever I want and still not get fat. I do exercise still. The idea is that we are all different, but boys and girls are not that different at all and I just don't think it is a good idea for a girl to think that a boy comes from a different planet, because then she really won't be able to understand him.
P.S. It's my first day on the website. I think it is really cute. Love the idea. Don't take it personal what I said. It was said more out of love, because it worked for me so I assume it can work for others. Hugs and kisses girlies!

Why did you republish this ridiculous article? All the comments are from one year ago; this is how I know. Surely you could have updated the questions and re-asked them, perhaps making a more reasonable article?

This was a funny article! I knew a lot of the answers, and had my boyfriend read this. He laughed too, he didn't know a lot of the answers either! It defiantly started a great conversation between him and I haha

I'm female and I only knew one of these questions. Although it's an interesting idea for an article, the questions seem to be geared towards girls who watch certain shows and buy high-end clothes. ((Plus my periods last for a week, as the guys stated!))
The main point, however, is good- stop worrying about silly things like this. Guys don't care.

What a fun idea for an article! I definitely enjoyed reading it, even though I agree with other commenters that these aren't all things that are general knowledge for girls. I'm going to have to be a bit of a technicality nerd, though. Holly Golightly is the main character of Breakfast at Tiffany's and is played by Audrey Hepburn.

This is far from representative of all college women. I'm a nineteen year-old college student and I only knew the answer to two of these.
