The Best and Worst of Love in 2011

This was a big year for us pop culture junkie collegiettes™ and there was a lot to cover.
 
We lost soul diva Amy Winehouse, Hollywood glam goddess Elizabeth Taylor, and Apple visionary Steve Jobs. Meanwhile, the Beckhams welcomed their first baby girl, Harper, in July; and Jessica Simpson debuted her baby bump on Halloween by cleverly costumed as a “mummy” (get it?).

Amanda Knox walked free from Italian prison and Lindsay Lohan was in court (again). Meanwhile, Charlie Sheen was “winning” (even if his career is clearly not “winning”). There were endless revamped styles from Katy Perry’s E.T. inspired pink hairdo to Beyonce’s bootylicious baby bump and Lady Gaga who (in typical Gaga fashion) made an unprecedented style statement by opening this year’s MTV’s Video Music Awards as her male alter ego, Jo Calderone. We said goodbye to Harry and the magical school of Hogwarts in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 and we bid a fond farewell to Oprah from daytime TV after 25 years on the air. The Jersey Shore crew invaded Italy just as President Obama finally pulled U.S. troops out of Iraq. We rocked out to Katy Perry's “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F)” and Rebecca Black’s awesomely bad “Friday” and all the while, Adele owned the billboard charts as the “it” artist of the year, hands-down.
 
From the artists that rocked our iPods to the red-hot red carpet celebrity styles, most publications have already posted their year-in-review rankings of the year. But really, what would any pop culture junkie’s list be without a rundown of the hottest (and not-so hot) love of 2011?
 
From red carpet romances to big screen breakups, it was the year to fall in (or out of) love in 2011.
 
Some celebrities walked down the aisle (like real-life princess Kate Middleton or Kim Kardashian) and some walked into divorce court (like celeb couples Demi/Ashton, J-Lo/Mark… or also Kim Kardashian). Kate and Prince William definitely won our hearts this April with their London wedding and the balcony kiss seen 'round the world, while 16-year-old Courtney Stodden and 51-year-old Doug Hutchison definitely topped the list for most controversial wedding of 2011 (35-year-age difference? Ew.).
