If you can't already tell how obsessed HC is with Catwoman (check out our articles on DIY costumes, movie costumes, and costumes that are sure to be hot this year!), here we are with even more info on how to dress as your favorite feline anti-heroine. We love Catwoman because she's a strong woman despite her dark past, and you really can't beat her look! Catwoman is a classic costume that is seeing a huge surge of popularity after this summer's release of The Dark Knight Rises, and we want to make sure all you collegiettes know how to dress like her. You might have to buy a few things, but we're going to make this How-To as Do-It-Yourself as possible!
The first step, of course, is to get ahold of head-to-toe black clothing. Spandex works best, because Catwoman always wears notoriously tight clothes. If you can find a one-piece (think gymnastic style leotards), then great! If you aren't comfortable in a tight seamless outfit, though, try black pants and a fitted black shirt. Heels, though, are a necessity! Black, shiny pumps paired with your all-black outfit are sure to make a statement, or go classic with high-heeled boots.
Next is hair and makeup. Whatever length or color your hair is, just style it in a way that makes you feel confident! Halle Berry pulled off Catwoman with short locks, while Anne Hathaway had long, voluminous tresses. If you're feeling adventurous, you can even style your hair into cat ears (check out this video tutorial, or experiment with backcombing, bobby pins and a LOT of hairspray). After you feel good with your hair, it's time for make up. Think dark, smoky eyes with cat-eye eyeliner! Use eyeliner or facepaint to draw some whiskers on your face if you want to, but it's not neccessary (remember, Catwoman just acts like a cat - she's not actually part feline). Still, there have been so many interpretations of her costume over the years, ranging from simple spandex to complete feline ferocity, you pretty much get to go as far as you want with this one. One thing is for sure: red lipstick! This anti-heroine is known for her sex appeal, so play it up with the red lipstick. You can match that to bright red nail polish, too! If you really want to up the drama of the costume, wear fingerless gloves with your red nails popping out - it will seem like your claws dug through the leather!
The finishing touches really pull this outfit together. If you didn't style your hair into cat ears, they are easy to make out of construction paper and a headband. Glue a little fake fur on them, and you're ready to go! Add a cat tail, too, which can be purchased at any Halloween supply store. Then, of course, you're going to need a mask! Go with a smaller masquerade style mask with large-enough holes for you to see out of, and for people to see all your awesome make up. Again, you can probably make this yourself with construction paper and some elastic, but it shouldn't be an expensive purchase, either. Finish off the outfit with Catwoman's favorite weapon: a whip!
