Break Up With Stress This Semester

The summer has come and gone, which can only mean one thing– it’s back-to-school season, collegiettes! It’s time for moving back to campus, studying for classes, and shopping for stacks of textbooks, a new fashionable fall wardrobe (of course), and dorm room necessities. After all, fall semester is all about making a fresh start, right?

Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of reasons why fall semester is the best, but getting back on schedule can be pretty stressful. Between running from class to class, making it on time to club meetings, and hanging out with friends, it can be hard to make time to de-stress. I spent most of my years in college as a busy collegiette on the go, from the minute I woke up to the time I collapsed in bed. Every hour of every day in my week was scheduled (sometimes, even down to the minute). At times, I didn’t feel like I was in control and that stressed me out of my mind! The problem was I never took the time to cope with my stress.

For my senior year, I knew I had to make a change. If I wasn’t going to learn how to de-stress studying for my finals, how was I ever going to handle life post-graduation? I signed up for a ballet class on my campus and I swear it’s changed my life! Dance was a great way for me to de-stress (and it certainly beat eating junk food in front of the TV). After just a few semesters of ballet had strengthened my core, built muscles (muscles I didn’t even know I had), and gave me flexible limbs. Even meditative breathing while stretching was a relaxer.

I think a lot of collegiettes can relate to feeling overworked and burnt out, which is why finding your own way to cope with stress can change your whole perspective! Whether it’s signing up for yoga or something as simple as taking a few deep breaths every so often, ascertaining your method of de-stressing will leave you feeling healthier, calmer, not to mention– more free!

So here’s to breaking up with old habits and kicking off the new semester right, collegiettes!
