If you’re totally obsessed with HGTV (like me!), then you’re familiar with House Hunters. While you’re following a couple and debating whether or not they should get the house with the Spanish-style exterior, you always hear a soothing, calming voice narrating the show.
Now we’re finally getting to meet the woman behind that voice: Andromeda Dunker!
In an interview with BuzzFeed, Andromeda explains that her voiceover gig almost didn’t happen.
When Andromeda realized she wanted to go into the entertainment industry, she headed to Washington, D.C. There, a casting director told her she needed to pursue a career in voiceover work, which was shocking to her because she was never a fan of her own voice.
“In my head, growing up, my voice sounded annoying and nasally,” she said. “The first time I heard it in a microphone I was like, Oh, wow. That sounds kind of nice!”
In 2009 her agent called her to do a cold reading for a new reality show called House Hunters, and the rest is history. Andromeda is only the third narrator in the show’s 18-year run.
“Part of my job is to be in the background,” Dunker said. “I’m not really with you, but I am leading you through this journey as a narrator. That’s kind of how I see it. If I were to come out more as a personality of my own, then it kind of breaks it. I’m not sure it would work as well.”
Now I’m in the mood for HGTV!
