Selena Gomez & The Weeknd Have Broken Up Amid Reports of Selena Reconnecting With Justin Bieber

Prepare to bawl your eyes out: Selena Gomez and The Weeknd have broken up after ten months together. Multiple sources confirmed to PEOPLE that the split has been coming for a while.

“She and Abel have been going back and forth for a few months about their relationship,” revealed an inside source. “It’s been hard with him being on tour and her shooting in New York. That wasn’t easy on them.”

The insider said the two are still in touch, but the breakup has not been easy. “It’s been hard for them to come to the realization that this is the direction things were heading, but it’s been hard for months.”

Rumors that the musical pair had broken up began swirling after some eagle-eyed fans noticed The Weeknd had unfollowed several of Selena’s family members and friends—including her mom and her assistant Theresa Mingus—on Instagram.

But PEOPLE‘s source emphasized that Selena and The Weeknd’s breakup doesn’t mean Selena is back together with ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber. As previously reported, the exes rekindled their friendship following Selena’s kidney transplant. They were first photographed hanging at Selena’s house with some mutual friends, and over the weekend they were spotted grabbing breakfast in L.A. and attending church together.

Selena and The Weeknd were first linked in January when they were spotted kissing after a romantic dinner. In the following months, they continued to add fuel to the fire, traveling to Italy together and going on a series of dates. They made their public debut as a couple at the Met Gala in May and began to show off their relationship with sweet social media posts.

It seems like their relationship may have just run its course, but what does this mean for Selena and Justin? Is there a Jelena reunion in the future? Only time will tell.
