The Missoni Effect

Over the past few years, Target has collaborated with some amazing labels in order to make high fashion affordable for the masses: Alexander McQueen, William Rast, and Jean Paul Gaultier are some examples. While these collections were successful, none of them had what I like to call “The Missoni Effect.” Not only is Missoni’s inexpensive collection a huge success in stores, but the Target website temporarily crashed because of the line’s high demand. Although the initial Missoni craze happened weeks ago, the collection is still receiving a ton of buzz. Read on to find out which items are still available, hear crazy stories, and  get the latest sccop on Missoni’s affordable collection.

What’s Still Available?
Although majority of the collection is out of stock, some items are still available!  Collegiettes™ can have chic meals with Missoni plates, cereal bowls, and cups. Here’s the best part: these items range from $3.49 to $3.99. Unfortunately, these products are not available online; I suggest rushing to your nearest Target and buying whatever is still available. If you’re in the market for stylish intimates, Missoni for Target’s  bras ($19.99), camisole sets ($29.99), and chemises ($29.99) are still available online.  Even though summer’s officially over, you can pick up a Missoni for Target swimsuit bottom ($24.99) and wear it on a tropical getaway or next summer. Other available items are clothes for newborns and young girls, which usually aren’t must-haves for collegiettes™.  Fabulous and inexpensive? No wonder this collection is such a hit!

The Second-Market Takeover
The Internet is usually a great place to find fabulous deals; however, pieces from the Missoni for Target collection have been sold at second-market sites, like Craigslist and eBay, for a lot more than their original prices. Lauren Riley, an online shopper who managed to successfully purchase Missoni items before the website crashed, is selling her finds on Craigslist. For example, Riley is selling a Missoni travel tote, which was originally $34.99, for $165. Missoni’s premier line sells scarves for less! Some people are even selling items for thousands of dollars. That’s right, thousands! One person posted Missoni’s  three-speed bike on Craigslist for $1,500, which is four times more expensive than the original price. However, $1,500 for a bike seems like a deal compared to certain pair of Missoni for Target rain boots that are on eBay: Tammy Lyn, another lucky shopper, posted a pair of size 10 Missoni rain boots on the popular shopping website for $31,000. No fashionistas, that is not a typo: $31,000.  They were originally $34.99 at Target!  With these crazy prices, buying pieces from the premier Missoni line seems more likely!

What’s the Update?
A few days after the Missoni for Target line went public, Target released a statement about the collection’s “unprecedented demand.” The store promised to address customers who were negatively impacted by the collection’s success. So what’s the update? When can we expect more Missoni at Target? Don’t hold your breath: Target is still struggling to fill the collection’s original orders!  Just today, Target sent emails to customers saying that their orders could be shipped as late as December. Target continues to give customers the option of cancelling their orders. On the bright side, a little bit of Missoni could be a great way to celebrate the holiday!

Update: Target recently announced that Jason Wu would be the next designer to collaborate with the popular store. I don’t know about you, but I may have to camp outside Target for this one!
