How She Got There: Brooke Lewis, Actress
Name: Brooke Lewis
Job Title: Actress
College and Major: Temple University, Communications and Theater
Website: msvampy.net and beyouandbefearlesslifecoach.com
Twitter Handle: @brookelewisla
Her Campus: What does your current job entail? Is there such a thing as a typical day?
Brooke Lewis: There is never a typical day in the crazy entertainment industry! Everything changes so you have to be prepared. There are some days when I have absolutely nothing going on and then there are other days when, from morning until night, I’m doing press interviews, auditions, pitch meetings, red carpet events. It’s unpredictable—I definitely don’t have a boring career!
HC: What was your first entry-level job in this field and how did you get it?
BL: My heart has always been in the creative arts. My first professional break was right out of college when I moved to New York: I landed the off-Broadway show Tony and Tina’s Wedding the Italian family comedy. I was really lucky to land a paying, acting gig right out of college.
HC: What is one thing you wish you knew about your industry when you first started out that you know now?
BL: I knew that it would be challenging and unpredictable but I don’t think I really processed it until I experienced it. I wish I knew how ever changing it would be.
HC: What advice would you give to a 20-something with similar aspirations?
BL: Always be true to you and don’t ever give up!
HC: Tell us a bit about your side project “Ms. Vampy”.
BL: “Ms. Vampy” is a comedic Brooklyn vampire character and she’s been called the modern day Elvira. Let me tell you: This was before Jersey Shore and Jerseylicious! It’s all about teen and tween girlsand we give them savvy advice about body image, self-esteem, cyber bullying, and making powerful choices. I’m on a mission to get this brand out there and show that there can be a fun role model that can guide young women and help them make strong choices. It’s all about owning your own voice.
HC: You’re an actress, a business owner, and an entrepreneur--What is the best part of it all?
BL: As an actress, the most amazing partis to be able to express yourself through so many different characters. The other part is that I really love inspiring people. Right now I’m so inspired by the Ms. Vampy brand. I feel like it’s my mission to take everything I’ve experienced in this life and business and help young women.
