Spicing Up Your Living Space9/9/2011 |
No TitleNo Title As the school year kicks off, many people are still putting the finishing touches on their rooms. Whether it is on or off campus, there are many ways to spice up a dull living space. Your room at school should be a home away from home and these tips and trick will do just that. Design with Deception Many students are faced with cramped rooms that they might even have to share. Here are a few suggestions to make it seem like your room is bigger. • Mirrors: Adding more than one mirror can give dimension to a small room and make it appear larger. Play with different shapes, sizes, and designs. For example buy several small mirrors and arrange them in a pattern for a modern feel. You can never look at yourself enough, right? • Bed Risers: Never underestimate the utility of under the bed storage. Bed risers increase the amount of space so you can store suitcases, winter clothes, shoes, or anything else that wont fit in your closet • Shoe Organizer: There is nothing for frustrating than frantically searching for a matching pair of shoes, especially if you’re in rush. Fit Me Maybelline Foundation: Love it or Leave it?5/9/2011 |
This week’s love it or leave it takes a look at the “Fit Me” Maybelline Foundation. The ads claim that it matches natural skin tone and “lets the real you come through.” The foundation is supposed to be breathable and blend seamlessly. The shades also have numbers that match with corresponding powder, concealer, blush and bronzer. |
Far East Movement Concert Review5/6/2011 |
Far East Movement, with special guest Miguel, rocked the stage on May 4 in Burruss Hall. This was one of the most underrated concerts of the year due to the last minute departure of Keri Hilson. Less than half of auditorium was full, but those who came were ready to party. The first performance started an hour late but the crowd seemed satisfied jamming to Virginia Tech’s own DJ Rhetorik. With popular hits like Travis Porter’s “Bring it Back” and Cali Swag District’s “Teach Me How to Dougie,” some students were dancing in the aisle in anticipation of the show. |
Chris Saccoccia4/22/2011 |
If Virginia Tech were to rate students based on involvement, leadership, academics, and service: Chris Saccoccia would easily be a five star Hokie. He balances being an honors student, numerous responsibilities and a demanding social circle. A typical day for Chris involves countless emails, back-to-back meetings, classes, lunch with friends, studying, manning information booths in Squires, and of course Facebook. Currently he is a co-chair for the National Collegiate Advisory for Relay for Life as well as an Internal Coordinator for Tech’s Relay. As a residential advisor, Chris is a role model and friend to both current and former residents. To him being an RA is more than a job because he loves it. He is a brother of the Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity and was recently chosen to be on the 2011 Homecoming Court. In addition he is a Leadership Chairand Sorority Relations Chair of the Fraternity. This means, as a Leadership Chair, he assists in finding leadership opportunities for the brotherhood and helping them with their applications and resumes. Sorority Relations involves supporting goals such as philanthropies, house cleanups or welcoming new girls to Greek Life. As a former Assistant Director for the Hokie Effect Program, Chris loves to show his Hokie pride and to encourage others to do the same. Despite all of his accomplishments, in the end, it is his dedication, work ethic and intense school spirit that make Chris Saccoccia a true campus celebrity. |
Nexxus Split End Binding Daily Conditioner: Love it or Leave it?4/15/2011 |
When is the last time you have been a victim of successful advertising? Have you bought a beauty product only to realize it was a waste of money? You’re not the only one. I continuously fall for the glitz and glam in ad campaigns for new products, whether it’s promising longer, fuller, healthier hair or magically transforming my face into the likes of Beyoncé or Meagan Fox. Unfortunately, like a moth to light I continue to fall for these tricks. Luckily, you don’t have to. I’m going to test the most advertised products and tell you if they are worth your money. This week I tried Nexxus Split End Binding Daily Conditioner. The most brittle and damaged parts of our hair are the ends because they are the oldest. It is recommended to trim your hair every six to eight weeks, because removing split ends helps hair grow healthy and strong. I am not a fan of getting my hair trimmed so when I heard about this Split End Binding Conditioner, I had to try it. The product claims it can bind 86% of split ends in three washes. After using it every day for four days, I did see a slight difference but definitely not $15 worth of a difference. As soon as I blow-dried and flat-ironed my hair, the split ends came right back. |
