UNREAL Candy: What's the Deal?11/16/2012 |
So, if you were one of the lucky few mobbed by us in the GSU on Halloween, you are well acquainted with UNREAL Candy. If not, you might have seen it in CVS on your trip down the candy aisle last night....I mean wait what? That never happened; first rule of fight club. Really, though, if you don't know about UNREAL, you will soon because it's popping up everywhere. Founded by a BU alum, UNREAL is on a mission to unjunk candy and make it a healthy, great tasting alternative to other name brand sweets. Their candies have no corn syrup, hydrogenated oils, artificial flavors, synthetic colors or genetically modifed ingredients. Instead, they use double the cacao, more peanuts, real milk, cane sugar, and organic palm fruit oil. I know it's hard to believe that there is a candy out there with no artificial ingredients that still tastes great, but we also thought that Lindsay Lohan was one of the most promising actresses of our generation and would die after a with her title of "America's Sweetheart" intact. And it really does tastes the same, and knowing that it's unjunked makes it better. You know how wearing lingerie just makes you feel stronger and more powerful, even if you're not planning on any sexytime? Eating food that you know is all-natural just automatically makes it taste even better. UNREAL has, on average, 30% less sugar, 60% more fiber and 250% more protein than the leading competitors. With each bar just under 200 calories, it's a perfect midday snack or dessert that you don't have to feel guilty about. And although healthier candy is usually only found in health food stores, UNREAL is in CVS, Staples, Ralph's and other big retailers at the same price as other candies. |

COM Star Alexa Galloway4/13/2012 |
For most of us, the hilarious videos we post on Youtube garner maybe 50 views. For Alexa Galloway, every month an average of 500, sometimes even 1,000, people see her videos. Alexa, a freshman in COM studying journalism, is one of the cast members of COMlife--the online documentary series that follows three Boston University students in the College of Communication. It’s ultimately an inside look for prospective students or others that want to know what it’s like to be a COM student at BU, and live in Boston. In addition to COMlife, Alexa plays basketball on an intramural team, is an active contributor to BUTV, works 4 days a week, serves as a COM Ambassador to the class of 2016, and always finds time to eat her way around Boston. We asked Alexa some questions about her experience as a COMlife star. Not satisfied with the conversation, and being the astute journalist that she is, Alexa took the trouble of adding a few of her own (very hard-hitting) questions to the end of the interview. Just Say No to Wearing Leggings as Pants3/26/2012 |
There are only two things I hate: leggings and everyone. My crippling excitement upon discovering that the two combined make up the unofficial college girl uniform was rivaled only by Mel Gibson’s delight with Hanukkah. This debilitating epidemic affects countless people every day, though the real victims are not those who don the leggings themselves, but those who are forced to look at them. Leggings, put simply, are neither classy nor flattering; no woman should ever be wearing them as pants. Women don’t wear leggings as pants; girls do. To be a woman is to be classy and well-groomed, both of which fly in the face of leggings as pants. My problem lies not with the leggings, themselves, but with the method by which girls wear them. I don’t know when it became acceptable for girls to walk around basically half-naked, but it did. When the trend first started, leggings were worn under dresses and skirts, as a “more fashionable” version of tights. But soon the skirts and dresses were lost, just like the girl who just walked past you wearing leggings and a crop top. Nowadays a girl can walk around wearing a pair of leggings, a moderately trendy shirt and some lace-up boots and she is hailed by all as the style icon of the century. The fact that every groove and curve of her butt is visible is somehow forgotten. The truth of the matter is: when a girl is walking in front of you and her butt is in your face, wobbling around mimicking her Tuesday night drunken gait, the feelings of nausea and discomfort mix together to create something so potent that misanthropy is inevitable. |
