Why The Chocolate Bar Is My Favorite Place On Campus5/5/2013 |
Most people love the Chocolate Bar for its variety of coffee drinks, delicious pastries and treats (chocolate chip muffins? Yes, please!), and gelato. As someone who needs no sleep and no coffee, however, my love for the Chocolate Bar is not based off of my need to be caffeinated throughout the day. Instead, the Chocolate Bar has quickly become my favorite study spot on campus, and chances are, if you’re there, I’ll be there too! I have to admit, I was pretty skeptical when they tore up our beloved Dust Bowl to start building Stokes. Was another building really that necessary? I mean, it’s not like it was going to be anything special, right? Wrong. Not only is Stokes the home of the wonderful Chocolate Bar, but also it’s home to the history department, basically making it the greatest building on campus by a wide margin.
As someone who always has ridiculous amounts of work, I spend a lot of time planted at a table going through everything I need to get done. I tend to stick to certain spots to study, returning to the same place over and over again for months. Freshmen year, it was the O’Connell House; last year, the study lounge on the fourth floor of Walsh, then the booths in O’Neill; and this semester, the Chocolate Bar has become my go-to study spot.

Reasons I Love Adam Levine4/28/2013 |
In 2002, Maroon 5 released their first album, Songs about Jane. A year later, the movie Something’s Gotta Give featured Maroon 5’s song “Sunday Morning.” My parents, being obsessed with the movie and the soundtrack, played this CD constantly, so I grew accustomed to listening to Adam’s beautiful voice filling our house at all hours of the day. Over the years, my love for Maroon 5 increased, as they released It Won’t Be Soon Before Long, Hands All Over, and, most recently, Overexposed. It wasn’t until I started watching The Voice, however, that I realized just how perfect Adam Levine is. Yes, I know he’s sworn off marriage, but I know it’s just because he hasn’t met me yet. If you’re wondering why I love him so much, don’t worry, I made a list of my top eight reasons! 1. He has the most beautiful voice. Ever. Need proof? Here you go: https://www.youtube.com/watch?... 2. He can rock a white t-shirt like no one else. You would think it would get old, but no. I’m also not opposed to when he wears sweaters. 3. He and Blake Shelton are friends. And their bromance is the most adorable thing I’ve ever seen. If you missed the article from last spring in People that talked about their friendship, I highly recommend reading it. |
Pinspiration: Best Pinterest Quotes4/22/2013 |
If you’re anything like me, you love going on Pinterest and reading the countless pins with inspirational quotes. I love reading these words of encouragement any time, but I particularly appreciate them on those long days when nothing seems to be going my way. So, I’ve compiled a list of some of my favorite Pinterest quotes that always remind me just how beautiful life is and how thankful I need to be every day. Look in the mirror. Look at every freckle, every wrinkle, every curve, every blemish. You are beautiful, exactly as you are. If you spend your life constantly trying to look like models in magazines, well, you’ll never succeed, because even models don’t look like that. Weight is just a number, not something to fixate on. So what if you’re not a size zero? You can either choose to be upset about this, or you can embrace it and be happy that you’re alive and healthy.

Why I Love My Professors3/19/2013 |
Do you ever have those moments when you stop and think about how the smallest things make your life what it is? How little decisions, like deciding to take U.S. History even though you placed out of it or registering for the 12:00 Italian class instead of the 11:00, can have the biggest impact? Flashback to freshmen year: I came to BC from Atlanta, Georgia, and I'm not going to lie to y'all, it was tough. You can ask almost anyone I encountered freshmen year and they'll tell you the same thing: I. Loved. High school. Loved it. While everyone else was excited to be at college, going to parties on the weekends and being with friends 24/7, I found myself wishing that I still had to wake up at 5:00 on a Saturday (well, maybe not that early) to go run a cross country meet. Yes, I missed my friends from home, I missed the comfort of being with my family and in my own house, and I missed all my extracurricular activities (it's seriously hard to get involved at BC). But honestly, one of the biggest things I missed was my teachers. |
Love Letter to Burns Library3/15/2013 |
Dear Burns Library, I have to admit, I was pretty skeptical the first time I met you. I just got back to BC after a semester abroad, so finding out that I had to go to you for one of my first classes was quite intimidating. I didn’t know what to expect, or what you would be like. But since that first awkward meeting, our relationship has progressed quickly, and I can honestly say that I love you. At first, I was unsure; it felt a little like you didn’t want me there. I had to sign in, I had to leave all my stuff in a closet, and I could only use a pencil to write with (spoiler alert: I haven’t used a pencil since high school). I followed all of your rules, but I was still worried that I was somehow doing something wrong. What if you get mad at me for having my Burt’s Bees? Or because I have a cold and keep coughing? Was I allowed to have my computer? The first day of class is stressful enough, so really, this additional stress was unnecessary and not appreciated. |
My Perfect Summertime Playlist5/15/2012 |
One of my favorite things about the summer is being able to drive around with the windows down and music blasting. There’s nothing like getting in the car on a hot summer day, putting your sunglasses on, rolling down the windows and just singing along at the top of your lungs. So collegiettes, as you start packing up all of your things (did this all really fit in one tiny room?!) and get ready to head home, here are some of my favorite songs that are perfect to listen to during the summer! I promise I’ll try to be reasonable with the number of Maroon 5 songs* on here, but I can’t promise that there will be any logic to the songs on this list (other than the fact that these songs are awesome to sing along to while driving… don’t worry, it’s been tested)!

Rowling Returns4/29/2012 |
July 21, 2007. It is a date that may not seem like a big deal to many people, just a summer day almost five years ago. But for me, dramatic as it sounds, it was the day my childhood ended. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was finally released, and it was a day I had simultaneously been waiting for and dreading since I first snuggled up with my mom and brother in first grade and listened to her read us the book that changed my life. |
