Campus Celebrity: Steven Perlberg

10/9/2011

You would never suspect Political Science-major Steven Perlberg ’13 to be able to sing along to the entire Les Miserables soundtrack, nor that he’s an ex-child stand up comedian. His interest in theater has led him to take on the position of director of Cast and Crew’s production of The Rocky Horror Show. He’s quite the catch, ladies, so unless you’re Scarlett Johansson, read more to find out how to win his heart.

Name: Steven Perlberg
Year:  2013
Major: Political Science, Anthropology
Campus Involvement: Cast and Crew, WashU Political Review, Beta Theta Pi Fraternity

Her Campus: When/how did you get involved in theatre?
Steven: I have always been into performing, and I actually used to be a child stand up comedian from ages 7 to 13. I performed at local events, radio shows, and opened at comedy clubs. I don’t know exactly how funny I was, but that was first time I realized I like being on stage. In high school, I got more into theatre, and towards the end of high school, I realized I’m more into directing than acting.

HC: I see. And how did you get involved in Cast and Crew?
Steven: Kind of on a whim, actually. I auditioned for some shows sophomore year and nothing worked out. So when I was feeling down, a friend showed me a Cast and Crew audition poster. I auditioned, got a nice part, and it turned out to be a great experience and show. After that, I decided I was into directing, and wanted to get more involved in it.

Campus Celebrity: Leah Weintrub

9/25/2011

Unless you’ve written a grant for the Cardinals, been a top fundraiser at WashU, and punched a shark all in the past six months, you’re probably not as awesome as Leah Wintrub ‘14. Usually spotted sporting a WUSA headband and always spotted sporting a smile, Leah comes off as an invincible ball of energy. Her Campus was lucky enough to sit her down and chat with her about her next big project, Dance Marathon.

Name: Leah Weintrub
Hometown: Plano, Texas
Major: Biology (Pre-med)
Year: 2014
Campus Involvement: WUSA (Ruby 3), Dance Marathon Executive Board, PLTL Leader, sister of Kappa Kappa Gamma

Her Campus: How was your summer?
Leah: Good, I did research at the Virgin Islands, scuba dived and snorkeled a lot. Oh, and I punched a shark.

HC: Whoa, how was it?
Leah: Bad-ass.

HC: I can imagine. So how did you get interested in Dance Marathon (DM)?
Leah: My RA was on DM exec last year, and one day he told me I had to be our floor’s moral captain. So I set up team on my floor and I met a lot of people through it. It was the first thing I was involved in on campus, BLESS YOU (HC sneezed), so I got really into it and wanted to raise lots of money.

HC: So did you raise a lot of money?
Leah: Yes, I set it up as a donation project at my high school, and received over $2500 in donations, and became the top fundraiser.

HC: That’s awesome. And what is your position in DM this year?
Leah: I’m the corporate relations co-chair.
