Lose the Freshman 15: Enjoying Eating Out in Moderation

Hey Ladies!

After my embarrassing splurge last weekend, I am happy to report that I have successfully made in through the weekend without falling off track! I even managed to keep motivated while out at restaurant week with my boyfriend and our favorite double date couple! I did it by following these three easy rules. Check them out below:

1. Chose water as your drink of choice: Not only is water super refreshing and hydrating, but it also saves you a ton of empty calories. Knocking out those sugary fruit drinks helps to save your calories for your actual meal in addition to a couple bucks as well. (Always a plus for us struggling college kids.)

2. Stick to something filling, but substantial for your first course: Since the restaurant we went to was participating in restaurant week, we were able to get two courses for just $20! That being said, I chose to start out with a house salad with balsamic dressing and olive oil (a Self Drop 10 reccommended item) on the side to fill up with some veggies before my main course was brought out.

3. Split your meal in half right off the bat to practice portion control: It’s not secret that restaurants dish out portions that are waaaaay bigger than what is normal. As soon as my meal was brought out I asked my waitress for a to-go box so I could box up half of my main entrée. This stopped me from mindlessly eating more than I needed and feeling uncomfortably full. Plus, now I have enough leftovers to makes a meal (or even two) later this week!

These simple tips make dining out easy but not restricting! I still had a great time with my friends and could enjoy my meal without feeling guilty afterwards!  I’m feeling confident that I’ll reach my goal of losing another two pounds by Tuesday! Be sure to check back then to see if I do.
