Lose the Freshman 15: What To Do On Your Day Off

Hello collegiettes! I hope you are all having a great Friday. I’m currently in the process of packing up the things in my dorm room, getting ready to move back on Sunday. I noticed that every week when we have a day off from working out, or on days like this upcoming Sunday when I’m going to be spending a majority of it in a car, I always think about how exactly I can spend my day without completely ruining the progress I’ve made in the diet or exercise department. Here are some ideas I’ve come up with on what to do on your day off that won’t leave you feeling like it was a day completely wasted:

Eat a filling (and healthy) breakfast: Even though I’m not a huge fan of waking up early, breakfast is by far my favorite meal of the day. Stocking up on healthy options like oatmeal, fruit, yogurt, and possibly whole wheat toast keeps me feeling good about my diet and my stomach satisfied until much later in the day.

Keep busy: Is it just me or do you feel less hungry when you have a list of stuff you have to get done? Any day I have a lot of work to do, I try to keep my mind focused on the tasks at hand – this leaves less room for my mind to wonder if there’s anything sweet in the fridge, or how yummy Starbucks would be at that very moment.

Portion control: Depriving yourself is what keeps people feeling miserable when they’re on a diet. You feel like that delicious cupcake is taunting you, especially when it’s practically right in your face. Instead of saying no – just go ahead and eat it. The trick is to keep your portions small – eat half a cupcake, or half a cookie, or limit your scoops of ice cream to 1.

Move around: If you’re sitting down for a long afternoon of studying, get up for a short walk around the room every half hour. Walk to the dining hall or restaurant to eat instead of ordering in. Enjoy the warm weather by walking around campus or a park. Whatever you do, keeping your blood flowing will make you feel healthier; physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Those are my ideas for what to do on your day off from working out, if any of you have other suggestions feel free to comment below or Tweet me! Don’t forget to keep following the Drop10 Diet, updating your weight on Dietbet, and follow me on Instagram and Pinterest. Until next time, bye guys!
