Lose the Freshman 15: Gauging your success with visual timeline

Yesterday when I posted my blog, I noticed something. The picture of me with Popchips that I published looked strange.

I asked a friend of mine who was working next to me, “Do I look different now than I do in this picture?”

Her response? “Most definitely.”

The picture was taken a little less than six weeks ago when the blog and my journey with the Jump Start Diet first began. Yes, I’ve lost 13 lbs since then, but like I’ve said from the beginning—I don’t really get numbers. They honestly mean nothing to me.

So I decided to dig a little deeper (in this case, it meant going through old Facebook photos) and tried to determine whether or not there was actually a noticeable difference in my appearance since starting this journey.

Guess what? There is!

To really grasp the big picture, I decided to make a timeline of close-up headshots of myself to see the change evolve over time. A friend of mine had said he noticed my face was looking slimmer, but I thought he was just being nice. Turns out I actually have a nice slim chin going on now!

timeline

If you remember, early on in this blog I discussed how a slightly traumatic situation caused me to gain a lot of weight last semester. Note on the timeline how my face changed drastically from August to October. That’s when it all went down. And while my weight (and double chin) has fluctuated over the past eight months, I realized yesterday that I currently weigh less than I did back in August, which is actually less than I weighed all last year.

Looking back at all of these pictures truly made me realize how much I am succeeding with my new healthy me skinnylifestyle. I am winning the battle of the bulge. Everyday as my double chin melts away, I am gaining another year of my life. Do you know fantastic that feels? FAN-FREAKING-TASTIC!

Way too many of my friends have been caught up in the numbers game. Sure, I have way more pounds or “numbers” to lose, but it’s not about any of those digits that show up on the scale on your bathroom floor. It’s about feeling fabulous and seeing the results evolve right before your eyes.

Want to really gauge your success? Make your own visual timeline and applaud yourself for getting extra-photogenic as each month goes on. After all, when people look at you, they aren’t going to see some number floating above your head. They are going to see you for who you are. Won’t you take a moment to look at yourself the same way?

Not at the point where you can start gauging your success? Never fear! The Jump Start Diet is here, and it is an awesome, free way to get you on track to start seeing the change you deserve to see in yourself.
