Lose the Freshman 15: Feeling strong and seeing changes

This is a sponsored feature. All opinions are 100% from Her Campus.

dailylog21With last week’s weigh-in, I was excited for big numbers this week. But after watching my new favorite show “Shedding for the Wedding,” I realized that sometimes you can work your butt off and still not get the numbers you want. Women larger than me who lost over 10 lbs their first week lost anywhere from 0-2 lbs their third week into the competition.

It’s my third week on this journey, and I also lost 0 lbs this week making my weight loss total still 9.5 lbs.

But honestly, I’m not discouraged at all. I’m pretty sure a lot of what this week’s results have to do with is muscle tone. After all that jumping around with Jillian Michaels, there is a noticeable difference in my legs and I generally just feel stronger. Today a friend of mine told me that he didn’t recognize me while I was working in the library. He had to do a double take!

Even though there aren’t any numbers to show for it, feeling stronger is a good feeling and the visible difference, though slight, makes it all the worthwhile.

In fact, my new workout pants from New Balance now fall off when I do a long period of aerobics that requires jumping! And no lie—they fit perfectly over a week ago. Guess I’ll only wear these on the elliptical, bike or treadmill now.

Also, spring break happened last week, and while I tried my best to eat healthy, I’m fully aware that any time you eat out—no matter how good of a choice you picked—generally there are either hidden calories or fat grams or the portions are just plain wrong. (A friend of mine had a salad at a restaurant we ate at that had over 1300 calories when I looked it up later!)

But now I’m back from break with a refrigerator fully loaded with ingredients for the Jump Start Diet meal plan.  Plus I’m going to kick my cardio up a notch and really try to test my limits.

So, I’m not discouraged, and I hope if you reach a plateau or a setback, you aren’t either. Our bodies lose weight different ways and as long as you’re being healthier and working hard, feeling good at the end of the day is better than any number.
