A Trend to Try: The Wide-Legged Pant

With the onset of summer, that carefree California vibe and flowy 70’s garb is back. Many collegiettes™ begin to pull out their crop-tops, tie dyed T-shirts, and full-length skirts but what about those harder trends to pull off? One of the most notable recently has been the wide-legged pant.

For me, the tricky part of wearing wide-legged pants is getting the proportion just right. I’ve found that the best way to do this is to either wear heels or make sure that the pants are high-waisted. Both of these help elongate the leg (which is great for those collegiettes™ who are a little on the shorter side).

Here are some cute wide-legged pants that I’ve found (all less than $90!). Each retailer offers it’s own interpretation with different fabrics, widths, and colors.

Urban Outfitters ($59.00)

This pair is really simple to dress up or down. You could easily wear them with a blazer to your internship or job during the day and then ditch the blazer in favor of a loose fitted tank for a night on the town.

Topshop ($85.00)

Simple wide-legged jeans are probably a little easier to pull off than wide-legged pants. So if you’re a newcomer to the trend, I would start here. It’s fairly easy to find a top to go with this whether it’s a more form fitting blouse or bohemian styled shirt.

ASOS ($31.03)

These pants from ASOS really fit with the another hot trend at the moment: nautical. Wearing them with a fun striped shirt or themed accessories, like an anchor necklace, help play into the style without going overboard (pun intended).

ASOS ($34.00 to $42.00 depending on the color)

ASOS Palazzo Pants are perfect for ending that relaxed day at the beach. You could wear them with your favorite crop top or looser fitting tee tucked in.

This is definitely a trend I think will stick around for awhile so feel free to experiment with it and find what looks best on you! What better time to try out new trends than summer?
