After watching this hilarious video on CocoPerez about protecting yourself against the “Ugg virus,” I got to thinking — is there ever a time for Uggs? I’m the first one to admit that I often put fashion before function. I love a good heel, my favorite earrings are my House of Harlow pair that weigh (approximently) 82 pounds, and I’d often prefer to tough out the cold than wear a floorlength puffer jacket. It almost goes without saying that I’m not an Ugg fan. I’d probably take some of my friends to the clinic myself if there really was an Ugg vaccine.

And, yet, I actually think there is a time for these furry (and totally ugly) boots. When I was studying abroad last semester, I wanted to focus on seeing Europe — not how good my heeled booties looked. Whenever I knew I would be doing a lot of walking (especially in super cold places, like Paris or Berlin), I opted for Uggs. Did I look like a chic European? Um, no. I probably looked more like a dumb American tourist than I would ever care to admit. But my memories from those trips are the people I met, the places I saw, the food I tasted — not how much my feet hurt.

Trust me, I understand what it’s like to love fashion and always want to look chic, but remember that sometimes it’s okay to get sick with a bit of the Ugg virus and let yourself enjoy the experience.

What are your opinions on Uggs? Are they a good option for events when fashion should take a backseat, like class or a trip abroad?
