It’s borderline shocking that none of my friends held an intervention for me this summer for my excessive implementation of the maxi skirt trend. The floor-length skirt was my uniform for the summer, paired with braided sandals, sheer blouses, and neon statement necklaces. However, summer is over and, yet, I just can’t seem to quit my maxi. Of course, Havianas and tank tops aren’t really appropriate come October. Here’s how I’ll be wearing my maxi all fall, without looking like I’m stuck in July.
- Maxi: Make sure you pick a skirt in an earth toned color. My hot pink maxi was my ultimate summer staple, but, unfortunately, it just doesn’t work for autumn. Instead of a bright color, try a maxi in maroon, deep teal, or forest green. Of course, black is always a classic, but it’s a bit boring, no?
- Top: A maxi skirt is already over-the-top, so go for a casual top, like a knitted sweater to downplay the evening element. This look is just as comfortable as pajamas, but far more chic. Perfect!
- Shoes: Trade in your flip-flops for heeled booties. The heel will help make sure your maxi isn’t dragging through those fall puddles.
- Accessories: Rather than braided nautical accessories or neon accessories, go for heavy, bold pieces. The maxi skirt is so girly, so to make it more appropriate for fall, pair it with menswear inspired pieces, like a briefcase bag and a bold watch.
