Discounts, what a beautiful word. As a collegiette, it’s easy to score an amazing deal on that purse you’ve been eying. For stores such as Madewell and Topshop, you can easily trim off some from your total with a valid college ID. If you log on to websites like Gilt, saving a few dollars is as easy as inviting some of your fabulous friends to the wonderful world of online shopping. Recently, fashionistas have found discounts through Facebook.
Um, what?
Unless you’re living under a rock, you know that Tobi is essentially shopping Mecca for collegiettes. When you create an account through Facebook, and publish your purchase on your profile, the e-commerce site takes 50 percent off of your first transaction. I know what you’re thinking: where can I sign up? Though this deal sounds like a match made in discount heaven, posting your latest buy on Facebook has its set of drawbacks. For example, this post shows how much that awesome skirt you just bought costs, which is a little awkward. Not to mention that sweet deal doesn’t last forever: once you get that outstanding 50 percent off, it’s never coming back. Critiques aside, you have to admit this is a great opportunity for collegiettes. I mean, who doesn’t love saving money?
Tobi isn’t the only store that’s embracing this e-trend. According to Blogging Bistro, Target shoppers can snag discounts through a special made-for-Facebook app.
In 2010, Facebook unveiled its “Deals” page, which allowed businesses to reward consumers with discounts when they check into stores on the social media site. Since then, “Deals” has turned into “Offers,” a more accessible alternative that doesn’t require approval from Facebook before going live. So that’s why your newseed is always bombarded with random check-ins.
Last but not least, you can also save some dollars when you actually like a company’s Facebook page. Exclusive deals? Yes please!
With all of these options, it seems as if finding deals through your favorite social media sites won’t go out of style any time soon.
