Behind the Scenes at College Fashion Week Ann Arbor: Meet the Models and Stylist

College Fashion Week™ hit Ann Arbor last weekend! From girls strutting down the runway decked out in the hottest fashions to student groups performing a cappella and a dance to Gangnam Style, it was an amazing show.

The student models represented the University of Michigan, and while they weren’t practicing their runway walk, getting their makeup done, or checking the score of the football game, we got a chance to talk to them and get the inside scoop on what goes on backstage at College Fashion Week.

HC: How did you become a model for College Fashion Week™?

Abigail: I got an email from my sorority about it and my big and my roommate both are helping coordinate it so they asked me if I wanted to model and I was like “sure, why not?” It sounded fun.
Brianna: I saw it as a Facebook post that they were looking for models. I’ve always wanted to have a modeling experience so I felt like it was the perfect time now that there was something going on on campus.
Stephanie: I heard about it because one of my friends just joined the HC team to work on it so they said they were looking for freshmen models and she thought I’d be interested.

HC: Have you ever done any modeling before?

Abigail: Just for my friends and sister for her photo classes in high school but I’ve always wanted to try out for America’s Next Top Model! I thought that would be fun so I think this is like a little sneak peak of it.
Emma: No not really which is what makes it cool—different at least. New experiences are always good. I’m interested in modeling because it’s something I’ve never done before, even if I don’t aspire to be a model.
Stephanie: I have not but I’ve always been interested in it. Ever since I was little I was into watching America’s Next Top Model and into fashion and I loved taking my senior pictures.

HC: What about tonight are you most excited for?

Lauren: Probably just the feeling from the crowd. It’ll be fun once I see my friends out there, I’m excited.
Emma: The whole production of the event. I like getting ready for it and seeing how the show is set up, it seems really cool. I’m excited to see how it all comes together.
Jill: There’s a dress that looks exactly like something I wore to formal last year so I’m crossing my fingers that I get to wear it.

HC: What has been your favorite part of being involved in College Fashion Week so far?

Abigail: Getting my hair and makeup done. It’s so professional. I feel like I’m being treated like a princess. It’s great. I feel like a superstar.
Stephanie: Just being with all the girls from different sororities and bonding with them. And the hair stylist and the makeup stylists are really funny. It’s cool to see the process that goes into it, they’re constantly changing you.
Brianna: Getting fitted—I love formal clothes. My favorite kind of dress is black and striking, something head-turning without being a bold color.

And that’s not all we have for you, collegiettes—we also talked to the runway manager, Yekatherina Bruner, to find out even more deets about what goes into putting on a fashion show.

HC: What is your job and how long have you been involved in fashion?
Bruner:
I’m a runway manager and fashion stylist. I’ve been in the industry for 6 years.

HC: What has been your favorite part of being involved in College Fashion Week™?
Bruner: Watching the girls and seeing how their faces light up when they are wearing an outfit that they absolutely love and makes them feel good.

HC: What are your favorite looks?
Bruner:
I love bright colors, printed denim, and knee-high boots.

HC: What is the hardest part of your job?
Bruner:
I love every single part of it, there’s nothing hard about it. Does that count?
