The 13 Cutest Fall Flats for Back to School

Back-to-school season is the perfect excuse for buying new shoes (as if we needed another one!). While wearing heels can be fun, it’s a lot more sensible to invest in flats for day-to-day wear on campus. With this in mind, we’ve compiled the 13 cutest pairs of flats for you to rock on campus this fall! These shoes were chosen with fall 2013 trends in mind, so you know you’re going to be on trend while going to lectures!

1. Super Simple Slingbacks

Retro Slingback Flats, Forever 21, $22.80

Burgundy is a staple fall color, so you can’t go wrong with these beauties! These flats will look especially great with a trench coat or even dark-colored printed pants.

2. Must-have Mary Janes

Doll Over Town Flat, ModCloth, $29.99

We love how cute these Dolly shoes are! They’ll add a pop to any outfit you wear since they’re more interesting than simple black flats. However, they’re understated enough to wear with a patterned dress or skirt and not look over-the-top. Pair these with a bright blazer; the blazer will be the main focus of your outfit, but you’re still wearing really cute shoes.

3. Color-popping Oxford Flats

Just a Jiffy Flats, Modcloth, $32.99

These Oxford flats are perfect for a fall day when the weather isn’t great. They’re such a fun color, and will help to brighten up any day! We also love the detail on these brogues. Pair them with jeans and a simple sweater for when you’re dashing to your lectures; you’ll look so chic!

4. Chic Daytime Flats

Sole Society Kami Flats, Nordstrom, $33.46

If you’re looking to inject a little color into your fall wardrobe, invest in a pair of these Sole Society Kami flats in Bermuda Pink. If you buy them in pink, make sure you pair them with a simpler outfit so your shoes get maximum exposure. However, if you’re not feeling so daring, they’re also available in Dark Mushroom, a gorgeous, neutral color that will be perfect with a casual look.

5. Studded Day-to-Night Flats

Steve Madden Pompei Flats, Nordstrom, $40.16

These are fabulous party flats: the stud detail adds something fun to what would otherwise be pretty plain shoes. Even if you just want to dress up a little for going to class, these are great flats! If you’re looking for something a little different in your wardrobe but still want to be on trend, you should definitely consider these!

6. The Perfect Day Flats

Pointed Moccasin with Tassel, Zara, $49.90

These blue pointed moccasins from Zara are not only a great color, but the tassel detail makes them extra special. These will also be great shoes for when it starts to rain because of their water-resistant material.

7. Scalloped, Casual Beauties

Mia Abie Flat, DSW, $49.95

These nude shoes (which also come in black) are new classics. The scalloped detail turns quiet shoes into a great fashion statement. The best thing about nude shoes is that they’ll go with most of your wardrobe. These are the kind of shoes you can keep next to your dorm room door and grab as you run out the door; they’re great for both casual and dressy occasions.

8. Cute Fall Sandals

Brandee Flats, Nasty Gal, $50

These flats are perfect for the start of fall when the weather is still great, and you can easily save them for next summer – you can’t go wrong with faux suede flats. Instead of just being dull, black flats, these shoes are spiced up with a little stud detail on the straps. Whether you’re looking for shoes to go with your new party outfit or you’re just going shopping, these will look great with almost any outfit. These will also go great with leather – one of the biggest trends this fall – whether you want to wear a leather jacket or even leather pants.

9. Stylish Capped-Toe Flats

DV by Dolce Vita Laria Flat, DSW, $59.95

These DV by Dolce Vita flats incorporate the toe cap trend, but these shoes have the added benefit of coming in a great color: we love this blue! These will look great with jeans, giving your outfit a great pop. On top of this, the cut out detail at the side of the shoe makes them even more stylish.

10. Staple Leather Loafers

Soft Leather Loafers, Zara, $69.90

Be sure not to be caught without loafers this fall – they’re some of the comfiest flat shoes around, and they look great at the same time! Nude is an excellent color for loafers, especially for fall, since it goes well with fall colors.

11. Sparkly Party Shoes

Shiny Ballerina Slingbacks with Bow, Zara, $79.90

Imagine wearing these with simple blue denim and a plain blouse – such a clean, elegant look. These flats will add a bit of sparkle to any outfit. Pair them with jeans during the day or a colorblocked skirt or blazer at night for a party and you’re set, Cinderella! The extra bow detail makes these shoes must-haves for any collegiette.

12. Gorgeous Velvet Loafers

Isola Nylah Flats, Nordstrom, $89.95

Who said simple loafers had to be boring? They come in three great colors: black, blue and bordeaux, so no matter what color you’re looking to add to your wardrobe this fall, you should be able to find a pair of these flats to suit you. The simple bow design is so sweet and adds a little extra interesting detail to these beautiful velvet shoes. Be careful – don’t wear these beauties on a rainy day! We’re absolutely in love with these flats; they’re definitely a splurge worth every cent.

13. Splurge Black Flats

MICHAEL Michael Kors Fulton Ballet Flats, Nordstrom, $109.95

A good pair of black flats is definitely worth the investment! These would be great for internships, interviews or any professional occasion. The quilted design and MK badge make these so much more fun than simple black shoes! Make sure you don’t head back to college without a pair of shoes like these – you’ll be surprised how often you need them. You can’t go wrong with black ballet flats, and these are just about as cute as they get!

There are some great trends this fall, especially bright blazers and printed pants, and you’re going to need shoes to go with all of them! If you buy nothing else this fall, be sure not to get caught without loafers, brightly colored shoes and staple black flats.
