Yes, the rumors are true – I am writing about having writer’s block because I had nothing to write about.

This can happen often and for so many reasons. Lack of inspiration or motivation? Maybe your mind is racing with so many thoughts that you can’t focus on being creative, or having a clear thought that can be written down. Whatever the reason may be, here are some things you can do to get your mojo back.

  1. Write everything down!
    1. When I say everything, I mean EVERYTHING! Any random word that comes to mind, any story you wish to tell but don’t know how to tell it – even if it’s complete gibberish and doesn’t make sense, write it down. Put all your words down and look at them from a different perspective, maybe one will even jump out at you and inspire the next Jane Eyre.
  2. Look for inspiration
    • If you are lucky then you can wake up inspired or go about doing everyday things and find something that makes you want to pick up your pen or open your laptop. However, sometimes nothing happens around you or at least nothing that awakens that inner fire – so you must go out and look. Go for a hike and clear your head, watch a new tv show or movie, maybe even fully step out of your comfort zone and see what happens next!
  3. RELAX!
    • After having the need to tell a story or write an article, you can begin to question what you wrote – its normal! Really, it is! It can also cause anxiety to build up; from personal experience, this can make you not want to write – but don’t force it! One thing I’ve learned about writing anything, even if it’s a 3-page essay for your psychology class, you cannot force the words. They will not be genuine; they won’t be you! Breathe, drink some water and the words will come to you, patience young grasshopper. (Yes, that is a reference to the 70’s TV Show ‘Kung-Fu’.)

Do one or all three of these and get your pen and paper ready – you have words to share!
