From Seneca to York, Here’s Ishwarpreet

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at York U chapter.

I was inspired by the last profile article that was written on HerCampus writer and editor, Stephanie. The ingenious of writing a profile on one of our very own writers. So this week, I decided to write an article on Ishwarpreet Kaur, my little baby sister. I thought it would be especially interesting because of just how differently we treat our university experiences.

Q: What’s your major?

A: I’m doing a Bachelor of Science in nursing. It’s a collaborative program at Seneca and York University.

Before I ask the next question, she adds, “literally it’s gonna be very boring, to be honest with you.” Ish is referring to the article being written on her.

Q: How does a collaborative program work?

A: It means you’re going to college and university. Two years at Seneca and 2 years you go to York.

Q: Tell me the difference between the two.

A: Seneca is better. It’s tinier, it’s comfier and you get more one on one with your professors. It’s more practical. You feel like professors actually care about you in the way they teach—they make an effort.

Q: How many days a week do you spend at school?

A: Three.

Q: So, what do you do on your two days off?

A: I go to the hospital on Friday and I study on Wednesday.

Again, she breaks the momentum of the interview to say, “you can still change your mind. Interview Brianna or something.” Brianna is one of her friends. They were roommates at Seneca.

Q: What’s your expected year of graduation?

A: Ummmm…2017? No, I lied. 2018.

Q: What’s your favourite place to eat on campus?

A: Hero Burger. That’s my jam… I lied. Shopper’s Drug Mart.

Q: Where do you like to chill on campus?

A: Outside somewhere if it’s summer.

Q: What do you do when you finish class for the day?

A: I study, with my friends.

Q: Why nursing?

A: Because I enjoy it. I like science, I like to care for people, and I like to clean poop.

Q: Tell me something interesting about yourself.

A: This is what I mean. I’m not an interesting person. You write something interesting about me.

Q: What’s your favourite thing about York?

A: Nothing. I really hate York to be honest. J.K. Don’t write that. That’s mean.

She breaks away from the interview for a third time. “Why’re you interviewing me?! I’m such a boring person.” She goes on to say, “I don’t anything. I go to school, I study, I come home, I study, I go to school, I go to the library, I study. I go to the caf to eat and I study. I study with my friends.”

And with that, the interview is over.

Hey! I'm Stephanie Wilcox, and I am a professional writing major here at York U! I spend most of my time playing piano or ukulele and crying over books and boybands. I'm currently studying Korean as an elective, and I hope to do plenty of travelling after I graduate. I believe in fighting for a better, safer, and more equal future, especially through words and writing. This is my third year at York University, and I am thrilled to begin writing with Her Campus this year as a CC and seeing the impact we will be making here!
