Why You Can’t Deny That You Love Taylor Swift

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at YCP chapter.

When you think of Taylor Swift, you probably think of this:

And you probably think back to your middle school days when you blasted “Teardrops on My Guitar” when you found out that cutie you had a crush on was not at all interested, or when you spent literally hours in front of the mirror trying to get your hair to curl like hers did.

Eventually you decided that you were out of that phase and basically wrote her off as that obnoxious blonde who wrote songs about everyone she dated. You turned off the radio when every one of her songs came on because you couldn’t stand her voice. And you were always confused whether or not she was even country. Regardless, you just did NOT like Taylor Swift.

All of a sudden, one day you turn on the radio and hear this song and think “wow this is fun and catchy” then you look up the artist and discover its Taylor Swift(!?!).

First you’re in denial, you think to yourself, “it’s not possible, I like this song but I don’t like her so there’s something wrong”. But by the fifth time you’ve listened to “Shake It Off” in a row, you finally realize that you actually may no longer hate Taylor Swift.

After some digging you eventually realize that she’s not like you remember, and that she’s actually pretty awesome.

I mean what other celebrity invites fans to their house for a secret album listening party?

Or in lieu of a sexy Halloween costume decides to dress as a “Pegacorn” for a radio interview?

Also, just by looking at her Instagram she’s basically a grandmother in the body of a 25 year old. Which is awesome.

Her dance moves in the “Shake It Off” video are ridiculously awkward and hilarious. Especially because you know that you’ve danced just like that. One more than one occasion.

And most importantly, Blank Space makes you feel like you want to smash the car of some ex-lover (even if you don’t have a long list of them…)

So embrace your new love of the pop queen, who knows, she may even invite you over for another one of her album listening parties.
