Top Ten Scary Movies To Watch This Halloween

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at YCP chapter.

I love scary movies. Like, more than I should. People hate to be scared because it is just a terrible feeling that they just don’t want to feel it. But if you are really into jumpking out of your chair and yelling after something movies in the background, then you are in for a treat. Buckle your seatbelts. Because here are ten movies that you you should watch this Halloween.

The Strangers

This is a really obscure movie that everyone seems to not remember in the 2000s. It is about this couple who are on the rocks and try to recuperate their love in the young man’s cabin in the woods. But little do they know, someone is out to get them. What this movie does is freak you out when you least expect it. And it does not do with scary boom sounds but with old time music and silence.

The Shining

See the madness unfold in a grand hotel, in the middle of a huge snowstorm.  Watching this movie the first time, I was very confused. But once you hit that ending, there is no coming back. I do not want to give away a lot for this film, but you get to know all about red rum.

A Nightmare on Elm Street

I really love this movie for no reason. Maybe it is because of Kellan Lutz. And you thought falling asleep in class was bad. Try checking out this movie where no one wakes up alive!

Stephen King’s IT

…Need I say more?

Paranormal Activity 1-3

So a lot of people complain about the production of this film and the whole series but they have it all wrong. To be completely honest, the movie series did go downhill. But in terms of the original trilogy, they reach the peak of scariness. One thing that this movie does that isn’t in every scary movie is have no background track. Good luck in the dark.

The Gallows

A movie about a play that is technically haunted. The storyline is a little iffy but no matter what you will be holding on to the edge of your seat. Even the scene that the poster is portraying. It is quite terrifying.

The Conjuring 1 & 2

Other than Annabelle, The Conjuring movies are to die for. Not literally though. It is about the famous couple who study demons, ghosts, and everything under the evil sun. But you have to watch them in order. No cheating!

Insidious

Tip toe…through the window…This movie will make you want to slap ya mama! Just kidding. But it will definitely make you check your back every second.
