‘Tis The Season Of The Sick

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at YCP chapter.

Hello Lovelies, and welcome to your final stretch of the semester. Hooray! Applause.

Of course what comes with the end of the semester are finals, papers, and even the sick.

So for this week I decided to write about how to keep the sick away.

  1. Always wash your hands

Nothing like a group of bacteria to make your last days of school miserable. Washing your hands is the easiest way to keep disease at bay. Along with washing your hands, try not to touch your face since your hands touch everything, and whatever you touch can have those germs that make you sick. If you can’t wash your hands immediately use hand sanitizer.

2. Stay hydrated

This may sound strange but since your body is made up of mostly water it is necessary for your body to replenish what was lost, either from exercise or from just a general day where extra hydration is needed. There are a ton of water fountains on campus so no excuses can be made here.

3. Bundle up

It’s getting cold out, and while it may not always be cold, it’s important that you stay warm, especially at night. By bundle up I also mean that when it rains, use an umbrella! Or at least wear waterproof gear. If you think you’re too cool to wear rain jackets fine, but you won’t look too cool when you’re in your bed looking like poo.

4. Keep it moving

No I don’t mean your body, through exercise does give your body endorphins, and endorphins make you happy. I’m talking about air circulation! Disease is spread best when there is no air movement. If all the same air is staying in one place, where’s it gonna go? To your body. So try to keep some air flow in your room, your best bet is a portable fan. If your throat gets dry I’d recommend a humidifier just so the dryness doesn’t get to you.

5. If you feel sick, take your temperature

Not everyone has a core temperature of 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit, so if yours is naturally below this at a 96 or 97, your fever might look like 98 or 99.

In addition to all these tips I’m going to give you one more; the health center located on the lower level of the Student Union has free flu kits. In this flu kit you can find pocket packs of tissues, hand sanitizer, and a really cool thermometer. Don’t think i’m weird they just are. It’s a thermometer that fits inside a case that has the same dimensions as a credit card.

Looks kind of like this

Anyway, I hope this helped a bit in your quest to stay flu free.

Stay Classy. Or Not. Your Choice.

But do stay healthy!
