5 Hiking Trails Perfect for Fall

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at YCP chapter.

The temperature is falling, the leaves are falling, and the weather is perfect for being outside in jeans, baggy sweater, and boots. And if you like being outdoors, your boots are made for walking or possibly hiking. So if you want to revel in the fall colors, in nature, and you want to burn some calories while enjoying yourself, then these easy hiking trails are for you!

Nixon Park

With its easy and relaxing hiking trails, Nixon Park is a county park that aims to conserve and restore the land around it, they also have community education programs and volunteer opportunities. Overall, this park is a great place to get out and enjoy nature and be involved in the community.

Kain Park and trails surrounding Lake Redman

This is another County park that has many trails that display multiple different habitats to enjoy.

The hike to Chickies Rock and surrounding trails

This is one of the most breathtaking views of the Susquehanna River in Southern PA. It is not in York unfortunately, but it is a short drive on route 30 west, just over the bridge into Lancaster County (where I am from). So basically, it should be in York. The Lancaster County park has so many other trails, but if you go, you have to go to the view! I mean, just look at these pictures I found!

Rocky Ridge

I have never personally been here, but a few of my friends have, and it is very nice, again it is a York County park. You should at least check one out! Look! It has waterfalls, although you may need to do a little hiking to find them…

Apollo Park

This is another park that I have not had the pleasure to explore, but that will be corrected soon, because I am travelling here soon to check it out for myself. There are awesome geologic formations to take in. My brother has been there and he said it was good, so it must be! I cannot wait to go! Maybe I will have a follow up post about my hikes during the fall, who knows?!

Enjoy these trails and breathtaking views in and around York County in this beautiful colors of fall as well as the weather. Plus this gives you something else to do when procrastinating school work!

Hey!  My name is Kathleen and I am a senior Biology major at York College of Pennsylvania. I am from a little town in Pennsylvania called Lititz. If you can't find me on a nice day, I will probably be found wandering a local trail. I am a huge nerd and I love being involved in the biological sciences. I try to be as green as possible, while being poor (as many of us college students are). I started writing for HerCampus, because I think I could add a different perspective to some popular issues surrounding college campuses. Happy browsing!  ~ Kathyl
