If you want to transfer schools, here are some things you should keep in mind:
Something that is common for students is feeling like you do not belong at your current school and fearing as though you made the wrong college choice. You most likely spent hours calculating every possible variable that would affect what university you would choose, but now that you have arrived on campus, you are just not sure if this is the school that you want to be at.
This could be for a myriad of reasons. You thought that you wanted a small school, but now you see that you were very wrong in that decision. The financial aid options are not going to work out. The school is just too far from home, and the distance is too much to handle. You finally decided what you want to major in, and the school you are at does not offer that major.
Whatever the reason, it’s totally okay.
Before taking the jump, try and remember why you choose the school that you did in the first place. Talk to your family and ask them what they think about the change. If you do decide that you want to transfer, research what schools are transfer student friendly, which schools have room for transfer students, if all the credits you currently have will transfer with you, and what financial options the school can offer you. Make sure the school you are transferring to has what you want that the last school didn’t. Reach out to your advisor or success coach at your current school, and they will be able to help you get the process started. Just know that you are not alone, and transferring is fairly common.
I hope you are able to find where you truly want to be, and just remember the encouraging words of Michelle Tanner…
