RLCG: How to Handle Being Spring Broke

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WVWC chapter.

“Spring Break is coming up and I don’t have the funds for a big trip, but I still want to have fun. What are some things I could do over break that won’t make me too envious of those heading for the beach?”

Sincerely,

Spring Broke

Dear Spring Broke,

It’s okay to not go on a trip for Spring Break because there are plenty of great, low-budget things you can do that will make your break just as fun! Here’s a list of ideas that any college student, even with limited funds, can enjoy:

1. Go see your family. Being as busy as we all are, we don’t always get to see our loved ones, so Spring Break is a great time to make up for lost time!

2. Read a book that is not required for class. Reading can be a great way to relax, especially when you’re reading for fun!

3. Play catch-up. Use Spring Break as a time to catch up… on school work, sleep or your favorite TV series.

4. Visit old friends. Chances are your college isn’t the only one having break this week, so try to plan a girls’ day with your long distance bestie.

5. Go for a hike. If you can’t make it to see the sunset from the beach, maybe you can see one from the top of a mountain.

6. Go to a ski resort for the day. Do the complete opposite of sunbathing and go snowboarding, tubing or skiing. It is still technically winter, after all.

7. Plan a spa day with your girlfriends. Doing everything you can to save money, of course. Make at-home mud masks and give each other mani-pedis while you watch all of your fave rom-coms.

8. Spend time with your pets. Pets are so important and they miss you while you’re away! If you don’t have pets, play with someone else’s pets—even a stray will do. Just play with a dog.

9. Take a day trip to somewhere local. Eat a local restaurant, go to the park that’s just a block away from your house—just appreciate the things that you have surrounding you.

10. Have a DIY day. Take a day and do some of those crafts that you’ve had Pinned for three months now!

I hope this list gives you some ideas! And just think, by avoiding the beach this Spring Break, you have a couple more months to work on your summer body (or just shop for a cute swimsuit)! Have a safe and fun Spring Break!
