Campus Survival: 5 Easy Ways to Relax

As the fall semester begins to heat up, we all can feel a bit overwhelmed at times. But sometimes, it can be hard to take a little extra time just for you. With busy schedules, homework and meetings, relaxation seems to be on the bottom of the priority list. But let’s face it, we all need a break every now and then. So, here are five easy and simple ways to make your day a little more relaxing!  

1. Get Ice Cream! With Dairy Queen right around the corner from campus, it only takes five minutes to make your day sweeter. Treating yourself to something you love will definitely make you smile and take your mind off of classes, at least for a few minutes. 

2. Listen to Music. It seems cliché, but listening to some of your favorite upbeat tunes is a must when you want to escape the world for a few minutes. Don’t be afraid to dance either! Even if it’s just tapping your foot or bobbing your head to the rhythm, the more you get into the music, the better!

3. Go for a Walk. Even if it’s just a quick lap around campus, exposing yourself to nature is serene and relaxing, especially when the weather is nice! If you have some extra time, head up to Audra State Park! With so many beautiful places on and off campus, it’s easy to find a spot to relax by yourself. The library can be stuffy; take a break and enjoy the sunshine!

4. Read. I know what you’re thinking, but this isn’t the kind of reading you would do for class. Choose one of your favorite books and immerse yourself in something that isn’t a textbook. And if reading a book isn’t your thing, find a fun or interesting article online! Reading something just for fun can be oddly relaxing, especially when you’re reading because you want to, not because you have to.

5. Watch a Funny Video! With so many different platforms (YouTube, Vine, Facebook or Instagram) it’s easy to find a short video to make you smile! Shorter videos aren’t as time consuming as watching Netflix (and won’t make you want to binge-watch for hours). If you’re looking for a quick way to relax, or something to make you smile, turn to the internet!

It only takes a few minutes to make your day a little brighter! Take some much needed you time, and sit back and relax!
