Bake a Change with She’s the First and Her Campus WVWC!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WVWC chapter.

Autumn brings family gatherings and holiday traditions. As stressed college students, we often look forward to the long breaks that come with various holidays. A week without studying, reading, and homework appeals so greatly to those of us who are fortunate enough to attend college that, many times, we forget about others who do not have the same opportunities, who do not have the means to attend college. In reality, we are more blessed than we believe. To change these unfair conditions, many individuals are in the fight to increase educational opportunities around the world.

She’s the First is a non-profit organization that sponsors girls’ education in developing countries. The organization supports girls so that they become the first in their families to graduate from secondary school. So far, She’s the First has impacted the lives of 289 girls in 11 countries. Various college and professional groups in the U.S. raise funds and support She’s the First through dialogue in residence halls, student centers, their local community, and, of course, on social media. One of She’s the First’s largest fundraisers is their Annual Tie-Dye Cupcake Bake-Off.

Her Campus WVWC has eagerly stepped up to sponsor She’s the First in their third Bake-Off. Hard work from Her Campus team members, Aladdin Food Management, and Executive Chef Patrick O’Brien will allow Her Campus WVWC to #BakeAChange. (Note: It is highly worth mentioning that O’Brien and staff have pledged to donate 180 cupcakes. We are excited to have their support!)

The Bake-Off begins Friday, October 25, at 4:30 P.M.; it concludes on Friday, November 1. Sales will continue through dinner hours. One tie-dye cupcake costs $1.00. Cupcakes can be purchased at the Her Campus WVWC booth in the cafeteria, directly in front of the side dining hall rooms. All proceeds go to girls in developing countries like Ethiopia, Kenya, and Uganda.

Support the 3rd Annual Tie-Dye Cupcake Bake-Off by making a donation; your help will sponsor young girls through the quest for accessible education! To learn more, visit shesthefirst.org/cupcakes.
