The Mountainlair: West Virginia University’s Best Kept Secret

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WVU chapter.

The Mountainlair: a place that students go in and out of everyday to eat lunch, meet up with friends, or simply pass time. However, once classes are finished for the day, do you ever go to the ‘Lair? The answer is probably not, unless you have a meal plan and are sick of the dorm food.

Speaking of food, the ‘Lair has a sit-down restaurant, Hatfields, if you want to catch up with a friend and avoid the loud noise in the dining area. This restaurant has a sandwich station, a salad and soup bar, and a daily feature where the cooks make a different meal each day. The food is delicious, and it’s a nice chance of atmosphere.

The ‘Lair actually has a lot to offer. For example, there is a basement to the building that most students don’t realize. This basement holds a bowling alley, a billiards room, and a pub, which are all available to the students. The bowling alley has a Monday night special, and the pub has a variety of food and beers on tap. This is the perfect get-away from the noise upstairs, and you may just discover that you have a secret talent in bowling!

Aside from the downstairs, the ‘Lair holds a weekend-long activity called ‘WVUp All Night,” which is a fun alternative from going downtown. I actually experienced Up All Night last night, and I had a blast! There is truly nothing better than free food and movies! A lot of students were in attendance, and everyone was having a great time. Each week, they have a different schedule of activities, so make sure to check their website out before you attend so you know what’s going on!!

Next time you’re in the ‘Lair make sure to check out the different restaurants and fun activities that the building has to offer. You’ll be surprised as to how much fun you can have in between classes or on the weekends!
