Hey there! Today I’m thrilled to share some of my all-time favorite books with you today that have supported me throughout my college journey. From self-help to romance, and everything in between, these books have not only kept me entertained but also provided invaluable insights and lessons along the way.
Self Help:
- The Subtle Art of Not Giving A F*ck by Mark Manson– Let’s face it, college can be overwhelming. This unconventional self-help book urges readers to accept life’s unavoidable hardships and questions conventional wisdom about positivity. Mark Manson’s style is no-nonsense and because of it, I learned to prioritize what is important and let go of the rest.
- Atomic Habits by James Clear– Developing successful habits is the main focus of college. By delving into the science of habits, Clear gives readers practical advice on how to form healthy habits and break the unhealthy ones, giving them the ability to take charge of their own lives. I used this book to develop my daily routine.
Finance/ Personal Development:
- Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert T. Kiyosaki– I have only been reading this recently, but Kiyosaki’s book has been my lighthouse as I make my way through the realm of student loans and financial independence. In contrast to the perspectives of two fathers, Kiyosaki’s classic on personal finance offers insightful advice on accumulating wealth and achieving financial independence. It is packed with priceless lessons about investing and money management and is ideal for any college student trying to establish a strong financial foundation
Romance:
- Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen– Aahh, love in the time of corsets and ballrooms! Austen’s classic romance explores themes of love, class, and societal expectations, captivating readers with its wit and charm never fails to sweep me off my feet. Perfect for those cozy nights in with a cup of tea. Can you tell I’m a fan?
Classic:
- 1984 by George Orwell– A disturbing portrait of a totalitarian society where individual freedom is suppressed, Orwell’s dystopian classic serves as a devastating reminder of the value of freedom and truth. A sobering warning of the perils of totalitarianism and the importance of defending our freedom can be found in Orwell’s dystopian masterwork.
Career/ Professional Development:
- How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie– Networking can be intimidating, but Carnegie’s timeless advice has helped me navigate the world of professional relationships with confidence and authenticity. The book offers timeless advice on interpersonal skills, communication, and leadership. Carnegie’s classic helps readers navigate the complexities of social and professional relationships. This is a book I would recommend reading several times. As they say, practice makes perfect, I first read it in high school.
- The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey– Another book I have started recently. Covey’s book is like a roadmap for personal and professional success. Covey outlines seven principles for personal and professional effectiveness, guiding readers on a journey of self-discovery and growth. By focusing on fundamental principles and habits, I’ve been able to become more proactive and get closer to my goals.
Science Fiction/ Fantasy
- Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling– No college reading list would be complete without a dash of magic! Rowling’s iconic series has been my escape from the stresses of college life. Rowling’s magical world captivates readers of all ages with its themes of friendship, courage, and the battle between good and evil.
- Dune by Frank Herbert– This book is in a distant future where noble houses vie for control of a desert planet and fight for a valuable resource called “spice”. This epic tale of politics, religion, and interstellar intrigue has captivated my imagination like no other. Herbert’s richly detailed universe is the perfect escape for any sci-fi aficionado. And the movie is also great!
