The WMU Broncords Present: Not Another Parody

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WMU chapter.

Do any of you collegiettes™ out there consider yourself Gleeks (Glee fans)? Millions of tiny goose bumps start to overtake your body when Blaine from the Warblers opens his sultry voice every Tuesday night? Well, do I have a treat for you. The WMU Broncords, Western’s very own all male a cappella group, is putting on their spring concert, ‘Not Another Parody’ with their counterpart, WMU’s female a cappella group, Mane Attraction performing as an opening act. Their performances will take place at The Little Theatre on East Campus April 1st from 7-10 p.m. Student tickets are extremely affordable (only $3). The Broncords will be singing a wide range of songs that will make your heart melt; they even have a few surprises up their sleeves.

What made you want to start the Broncords?
CS- My roommate Kenny Weber and I performed in an a cappella group in high school. We really dove into the genre when a friend of ours joined the a cappella group at MSU. When Kenny got to WMU a year after me, we noticed there was not an a cappella community here, so we wanted to start it.

How did you find other interested members?
CS- We held auditions and people showed. We advertised as best as we could. We also became an RSO on campus to help with PR. We had high turnover the first couple years, but we have a solid core with some really solid young talent to take over.

Do you compete against other schools?
CS- There is a competition called ICCA where college a cappella groups compete against each other. We have not gone yet, but we are planning on competing next year. We have also gone to local competitions, most recently at GVSU. It was a great experience and a good networking tool.

How often do you practice?
CS- We practice two times a week for two hours at a time. Sometimes more than that if we have a performance coming up and need extra time.

Where have you performed before?
CS- Performances vary depending on the time of year. We do put on our own large concert in a theatre or auditorium on campus once a semester. We also open for other college a cappella groups, as well as tour to different high schools and their communities. And we do serenade a select number of sororities, as well as perform at their events. We did recently help my co-founder propose to his now fiancé. We are a tight knit group.

Here is a video clip of the Broncords performing one of the songs at a sorority’s philanthropy event in February.
