DIY- Lace Headband

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WMU chapter.

I’m sure you have all seen these lace headbands floating around Pinterest.

I just love the look of that lace headband. This week I made two different examples.

What you need: I used a thin lace, some embellished ribbon, a standard head band I already had, scissors, and E6000 glue. When you are using E6000 glue make sure you’re in a well-ventilated area. I bought my lace and ribbon at Wal-Mart; I might seem tacky but it’s much cheaper there. First I measured out two pieces of lace and one of the embellished ribbon, which fits across the headband.

and

Apply a thin layer of E6000 glue to your headband and add the lace. Then apply another thin layer of E6000 glue and add the other piece of lace facing the other way, so there is a scallop pattern on both sides. Next, apply a thicker layer of glue and add the embellished ribbon. Press down for a minute, making sure everything is secure. You can also take two 4 inch pieces of lace and glue them to the end of your headband to keep the ends looking good. I let my headband dry overnight.

This is what it should look like when your done. Now wear your new headband!

The other headband I made is an elastic one. I only used the embellished ribbon for this one but you can glue on two pieces of lace to get the same look as the other head band I made.

What you need: a ruler, embellished ribbon or some sturdy lace (I think the thin lace will break), ½ inch white elastic, E6000 glue, and some binder clips.

Measure out your ribbon or lace, measuring from ear lobe to earlobe. Mine was about 20 inches, but I have a large head. Measure out 3 inches of elastic if you have a small head, or 4 inches if you have a large head.

 and

Put a glop of glue on each side on elastic, then press on your ribbon. Meeting each end, add binder to clips to make sure the glue and ribbon/lace bond really well. Make sure your ribbon/lace doesn’t get twisted. I would let your head band dry overnight. If you want to make your head band even more secure, quickly stitch the ribbon/lace to the elastic after the glue dries.

This project is cheap, easy and super cute! I really hope you like your new headband!

Katie King is a senior at Western Michigan University majoring in journalism and minoring in anthropology and gender and women's studies. This will be her second year writing for HerCampus and before that she wrote for the Western Herald. She also wrote for L7 women's magazine in the summer of 2012. In her spare time Katie likes to hang out with friends, watch reruns of old shows and talk about why Chicago is better than Michigan. When she graduates she hopes to move to New York with her tabby cat, Ellie and write for a fashion magazine. However, she changes her mind quite often so who knows where she will end up!
