Trendspotting at W&M: Longchamp Le Pliage Tote

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WM chapter.

A large number of college girls in America own at least one Longchamp ‘Le Pliage’ Tote. They’re pretty ubiquitous around campuses. You can easily spot at least ten a day around W&M. Made of a sturdy, durable (yet lightweight) nylon fabric, and thick cognac Russian leather handles, it’s the obvious choice for a school bag (if you can afford the steep price of $145).

Most girls at W&M carry the Le Pliage as their school bag/purse. Laptops can be a bit heavy for this bag, since it’s not structured from a stiff material. A few notebooks and everyday essentials fit wonderfully into this bag without making it look bulky or, on the other hand, too empty. These bags look best when there’s just the right amount of items inside them. Filled to the brim, they can look rather hefty, but with only a few items in the bottom of the bag, they look too empty. Noting this may help you decide what size you want. The Le Pliage typically comes in sizes small, medium, and large. However, you can also find it in XL and XXL on some websites and in stores. You can also choose either short handles or long handles.

I personally think the large size with long handles is the most flattering, though the short handled bags look cute, too! The large size is also the most practical size for everyday use. Plus, you can fold it up when you’re traveling! Big enough to fit your laptop, clothes for a weekend trip, or carry-on essentials for the plane, the Le Pliage is pretty much the equivalent of the high school superlative: Best All-Around.

If you’re wondering what W&M girls wear this bag with, well…they wear it with everything. From raincoats, to sundresses, to yoga gear, to shift dresses, this bag proves versatile enough to wear across a spectrum of different styles. I’ve seen it paired with an army jacket and a black maxi skirt, but it would look just as fab with a polo dress or even with a striped tee and palazzo pants.
